Do student travel cards actually work? i.e save me money on a ticket from Nenagh to Dublin with Bus Eireann and a train ticket at Connolly? Or are they very particular?

Dunno about the buses but they only save you money on intercity trains and monthly/weekly tickets, etc,. The savings can be fairly significant. It's worth having one anyway.

AFAIK Bus Eireann do accept them, I think it's ~26% off with them

Just make sure it isn't a JJ Kavanagh bus, they definately don't take them

And I think Iarnroid Eireann accept them too

But please double-check before you go, I could be completely off but I think I'm right

I know the Dublin-Limerick return train for an adult is 60+ and for a student is just 36 euro so well worth it!

It won't make you a saving on the train to connolly, unless you're commuting on a monthly ticket or something. and bus eireann will accept your nuim student card.

You save on the Dublin-Sligo train line too. Easily a tenner saved.
