you can't get a grant to do another ordinary degree (level 7) or anythning lower. but if you go into an ab initio honours degree (level 8), you should be eligible for a grant. (if of course you meet the usual other requirements.)

you have to be making progress to get a grant....going from level 7 to 8 etc...what ever choice you make make sure you chose one above the level you currently have.

Yes, the course is Level 8. However, I've previously done a level 8 course in the past after having spent 2 years in an IT. I only lasted a year as I just didn't like it. Will that count against me? I'm in the process of applying for a grant online. I guess I'd eventually be caught out if I don't put in the details of the level 8 course I did? I mean, I'm sure the CAO have records.

and you would have to pay the money back and could be prosecuted for fraud!

went with the "honesty is the best politics" (quote from Laurel and Hardy). Pretty exhaustive apllication but I suppose it has to be done.

now my only question is have I applied to the correct department. i applied to City of Dublin VEC which is in the Town Hall in Ballsbridge, D4. I'm living in Finglas and there were other options but I thought this was the most relevant location. am I right or wrong (think there was Finglas also). will call Citizen's Info tomorrow and VEC HQ in Portlaoise also.

what would e the next step? i'm going to apply for the course tomorrow (International Business with Chinese in DIT) as a mature student. CAO accepts applications from tomorrow onwards. do I just wait to see whether I'm accepted on the course or not and send off documentation to ballsbridge?

County councils deal with level 8 + but will forward your application to VEC if its 6/7 etc
