Hotpoint FDW20 Dishwasher problem

    Hey all,

Moved into a rented house a few months back and the dishwasher that's been provided (Hotpoint FDW20) has never really worked properly - when the wash/dry cycle completes the dishes will still be wet, and now lately it's started leaking at the end of the run because the water isn't draining out properly (although if you reset/start a new cycle the first thing it does is drain out).
There was an identical dishwasher in the house we moved from (same estate) and it worked fine.

Any ideas as to the problem? It's out of warranty (I checked with Hotpoint) and the landlord is a bit awkward (seems to think that calling him to report a leaking skylight, or no hot water in the house/low water pressure is "complaining") so before I go having another round with him, I thought I'd see if there's anything I could do myself.
