    Hey everyone,

I was wondering if i could get some advise, im looking to join a gym and take up a discipline.

I was wondering if there is anyhing people would reccomend, the options i have been looking at which look like they could be good are the two above.

Mixed martial arts in Top Pro in Kilkenny or the Muay Thai gym in Bagenalstown Carlow.

I commute between Carlow and Kilkenny daily so either is fine.

The main goals i want to achieve are fitness and self defense really.

Any tips or suggestions greatly appreciated

I have a few freinds who do MMA in the top pro, its very good and the lads who teach it are some of the best in ireland id say.

Sean at Carlow Muay Thai is a great Muay Thai coach and they're a bang on bunch of lads. I reckon you might get more responses in the Self Defence/Martial Arts forum

Muay thai is fgreat for fitness and is a very capable MA for self defense.I love it.But there is no ground fighting to it.

Never trained for mma but know a few lads who do and they love it too.

Muay thai is often tayght as the striking part of mma so if grappling /bjj would be something your into as well go the mma route.

Having said that why dont you go to both classes and see which you prefer and then choose?

Thanks man, i think i will give both a go and from there decide which one to do, i like the idea of the MMA being a bit of everything but i know people who do thai boxing (not in cork) and it looks like its a serious work out and very good for defense purposes.
