    Hi All,

    Visuals were good.

Still haven't pinned focussing on the captures :(

GRS and IO in transit and GRS:

Had nice views of the moon and Pleiades, but found that teh atmosphere was a little turbulent at higher magnifications.

Getting dark nice and early these days :)

    Clear skies!!

Is that the 8 inch scope your using? Im just wondering can you make out that stuff with your eye or can you only see it this good after an exposer with a camera. Im half thinking about getting a 10" inch scope next year, I just got a 5" goto and I can make out the bands but not this clear. Nice pics btw.

Hey, thanks for the nice picture. I think I also have to buy a telescope as soon as possible - each day with clear skies I want to see more than you can see with your own eyes. :)

Yep, the 8" scope. The short answer should be that the camera will show you more....but....

I can see things clearer with my eyes v's the camera. Mainly down to focus.
BUT...a lot smaller than the pics.

For example, the GRS is very clear but tiny....

Having said that it's just a matter of letting your eyes adjust.

And certainly if I was younger I'd see a lot more detail.

(Getting my camera focus right might improve the pics way beyond viewing...)

Jupiter is also very bright which can hide some features.

An illustration of the above is that I can see the belts on Jupiter AND the moons at the same time when viewing through the scope with my eyes.

But thus far I have not been able to do the same with the camera....

You should be able to see plenty with the 5" scope though, again, it will be smaller than the pics.

My 5" scope gives me max about 160x. Which is still pretty useful.
The 8" scope can give 300x plus if the conditions are right.

Finally...the ultimate limiting factor seems to be seeing conditions. And the seeing hasn't been great (for me) for a while....

Just wondering Peter is there a massive difference between the 2 scopes? 5inch vs 8inch.

They're fab, what scope are you using? I have the 8se and am itching to get out on those cold clear nights to use it!

    I have a pretty ancient Celestron G8N.

    Its an 8" hybrid reflector.

The hybrid part comes from the lens that Celestron have put in between the primary and secondary mirrors

Reviews are mixed on it, but it is compact and I'm happy with the views it's giving me :)

Good work as always! I've been a little under the weather as of late and have been too tired to get out. Will try soon! Loving the pics

I got some great views of Jupiter and the four moons this evening, it's such a clear night! Just wish I could take some pictures from my telescope!
