RCI Timeshare/Club

    Hi,
My folks are away on holidays in Spain at the moment and they were invited to a presentation by RCI on some form of holiday club or timeshare. They are retired and go on 3 or 4 good holidays per year. They are into cruises and nice resorts in Spain/Portugal, etc and the US. RCI are offering their package where you can book a room in a resort for about €170 for up to 4 people. They also offer cruises and lots of other options and the whole family can use it.
I know there are probably pitfalls and problems but has anyone had any good experiences with RCI? My parents are usually very flexible on the dates they travel so that might help. I would be grateful of any feedback.

Mods: Feel free to move this if I have put it in the wrong forum.

    Boredom.
Do they really want to be tied to one place?
Instead, they could be see'ing much more of the world.

Don't let them sign anything before their solicitor reviews it.

The resale on these things is usually crap

It's not timeshare in the strictest sense. You're not pinned to one property.

Yes, you have your property which you can use during your allotted time, however the likes of RCI (as the OP stated) will allow you to swap times and properties for a fee.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. There are way too many pitfalls and I'm old enough to recall watching programmes about dodgy Timeshares and seeing people who lost a small fortune.

I would agree with your point where there is no option to swap. Being tied to one place totally sucks. Friends and family have properties abroad, and while it's great for us to go use them, those that own them rarely seem to go anywhere else. In fact, I have a friend who is so heavily in debt for an apartment he bought in Spain that he can't even afford to go to it on holiday!
