Just came across this on the FAS website http://bit.ly/cR04l9

Its part of the work placement programme. Please note the 10 years experience needed for this job and the reminder that "This is a work placement programme and does not offer a salary"

How do people fell about this, is it exploitation?

Been done to death in the Work & Jobs forum, but the general feeling is that it is indeed exploitation, and the fact it still exists is not a good thing.

EDIT; Though I would like to say, that if it were done properly, with exciting or interesting jobs, and was a part time basis (so you wouldn't be raped on travel and lunch costs, etc. from your dole) then it could have been a whole different situation.

It doesn't pay? Hmmm... well it would be good for experience for future jobs. Can I have an interview?

Applicants are vigorously tested, graded and the finalists are selected through an oral exam.

That's prob the worst example of the abuse of this program but there is plenty unfortunately

Fcuking sickening that this is about the only measure the government has put forward to tackle our jobs crisis. Cnuts

In fairness now, I do think they're just joking.

Shit sounds like a lot of work, but it should be worth it. Think of the amount of money I'll make from the real job at the end of it!

Hmmm..... how 'vigorous' is it? ;)

I suggest that everytime one of these pops up every Boards user decides to email the potential exploiting employer telling exactly what we think of his cheap rid off mentality and wishing him and his business all the failure in the world.

Nice to land in on Monday looking forward to free slave CV's and get a few thousand how dare you! emails

    nah...... we're done.

seriously though that position is crazy. It should be reported. but if it was all they'd do is take out the 10 years part

I don't see any harm in working until the candidate finds a suitable paying job, lets face it they are still getting social welfare. If I was on social and sitting on my arse I would get a bollocking from the same people that would ridicule me for doing something. You can't win.

Of course I think employers are exploiting this but honestly who wouldn't if they own a business.

Better doing something for your dole than nothing.

Must keep studying for my B.Eng. degree and working on getting 10 years experience so I am eligible to apply for jobs with a salary of €0.00 / year.

Fair enough if u were to get a job at the end of the placement but thats not going to happen. Someone with 10 years experience in engineering would be in their 30's with maybe a family and a mortgage not really fair to expect him/her to work for free for a year to be told at the end of it to f**k off.

Plus it displaces workers IMO. Why pay someone full whack when you can stick some schmo onto a three month contract free gratis like.
