Hoping someone might be able to help me on this one!

Bought a factory unlocked iPhone 4 on adverts last week, got my meteor microsim the next day and it wouldn't activate in the phone.

Was a little concerned, but seller has assured me it was factory unlocked, had receipt to prove.

Tried my mates vodafones sim and it works perfect after activation, locked to vodafones you may say? Got an O2 sim today and it works perfect too, but still comes up with the connect to iTunes when I put the meteor sim in?

When in iTunes it says sim not supported

Have a mate with an iPhone 4 working with meteor so gonna try his sim in the phone in the next few days to see of his will work

Have tried restoring it via iTunes to no avail

ya need to hacktivate it i think, run limera1n.exe from limera1n.com
do it without the sim inserted and it should work

guil, why should he have to do this on a factory unlocked phone?
i had a look at this this evening for the OP and it works perfect with O2 and Vodafone sims, but when you put the Meteor sim in, it tells you to connect to iTunes.

i never had to hactivate my factory unlocked phone?

dunno think it might be the fact that there is no carrier bundle for meteor installed

yeah understand that theres no carrier bundles out there for Meteor, but why did mine and the GF's work without issues? And i preseume many others too?

not questioning your thoughts btw, just curious myself too, if the OP rings Apple maybe they could explain as it was bought recently from the Apple store and is deffo Factory unlocked.

the thing is, the phone is already activated. If he sticks a Vodafone sim in, it works perfect, take the Vodafone sim out and pop in an O2 sim straight away and it works again perfect, do the same with the Meteor sim and it say "connect to iTunes", then when connected, you get the usual "this sim is not supported".

i tried it with his Meteor micro sim and my micro sim and the same thing happens.

now i really am baffled, and it was definately bought as an unlocked phone from apple and not unlocked by a carrier, dunno if it would make a difference, suppose i could try get a meteor sim and see what happens when i put it in my i4, o2 unlocked it for me

EDIT: actually that wont work cos mine is jb so it def wont say unsupported sim

Ken, judging by the phone call it sounds like the phone is factory unlocked but the profile only allows it to connect with official carriers!

i'd say thats a good thing and that Apple will click a few buttons and simply tell you to sync when they have it sorted at their end.............hopefully :D

Still nothing from Applecare - thank god i'm not stuck for a phone  Called them a few mins ago and they 'haven't heard back from the escalation'

Also, strangely enough got a call from their online store asking was i interested in purchasing items i saved in my basket last week(another iPhone4 & Mac Mini) Just told the guy that if my issue with my own iPhone 4 is resolved propmtly i will be placing the order. If not i will be looking at other manufacturers

hound them tomorrow, the activation team might not work weekends

Finally got to the bottom of this!

The phone was not factory unlocked. It was a replacement phone sent to the seller due to a fault in the original

The original was locked to O2 - the girl said the replacement isn't locked to any specific network as such but will only work with approved carriers! Hence the failure with meteor

Lesson learned, don't buy a phone on adverts!!

Just ordered 2 brand new ones from apple store

I'd have no problem buying a phone on adverts.

You should have tested your sim in the phone before you handed over the cash.

Thats nice to know, But I was speaking as a lesson learned for myself. Not others!

If I had a meteor Microsim I would have, but unfortunately it's not the standard used in pretty much every other device

Why didn't you just hacktivate it? Takes a few minutes max.
