Anyone know of or own a car with one of these registrations? It was issued by mistake in 1982 by Donegal C.C. It went up to ZZP407 before the mistake was spotted and IH then started at 408IH.

    Just a curiosity....:P

Pardon my ignorance, but why is ZZP a mistake?

Because registrations with two Zs beside each other were never issued, apparently because of confusion with the ZZ series for temporary imports. ZZP was one that got away, almost!

It would be interesting to know if any are still 'live' out there alright?!

(nearest I've gotten is '207 ZP' on my fathers old Kadett;):D

I thought it had something to do with diplomatic plates at the time. Remember seeing a few about. Lived in Lifford at the time and all donegal cars had to be registered there n those days.

    Here's a quick sample:

    ZZP 407 - Renault 18
    ZZP 406 - Not Registered
    ZZP 405 - Not Registered
    ZZP 404 - Opel Kadett
    ZZP 403 - Toyota Corolla
    ZZP 402 - Not Registered
    ZZP 401 - Opel Kadett
    ZZP 400 - Opel Kadett
    ZZP 399 - Opel Kadett
    etc

Looks like the Opel Kadett was quite popular!

Remember the diplomatic thing too, think it was what diplomatic cars used in UK at the time. (Wonder did anyone really take the piss in London in Donegal reg car)

Unless I am very much mistaken ZZP 404 was a creamy white 1.2 pushrod Kadett which was owned by my old Irish teacher He had it about 1986 or so..

Sommits twigging my memory.. PM sent with teachers name

i recall a new car in very early 1987 appearing as (i think) CZK something and later reppearing with an 87C number....as far as I rmember there was a court case about it...is that a similar faux pas?

542FZF or 338FZF(Theres a bit of confusion as to what was the actual number, someone cartell it) was the last Cork registration,so maybe it was something similar to that reg?

Its not really the same, that just looks like that was someone sleeping at the desk in the registrtion office after the new years party in 1987!
