Dublin Bus "Ballyfermot Roadshow" - bus route changes

Didn't see a thread on this subject yet, so here goes.

Looks to me to be more route consolidations such as were in the Scott Wilson report. As of present, these are all "proposals" officially.
    • Routes 78 and 78A get combined with route 40 to Finglas; new route number is 40. Service via quays, Heuston Station and Con Colbert Road not indicated.
    • Routes 79 and 79A get combined and operate to Castletimon on the north side, via Donneycarney and Beaumont Hospital, as route 79; combination with route 20B seems implied, but is not explicitly stated (although IIRC, the Wilson report did propose combining the 20B with the 79). South side terminus is at Park West, running via Spiddal Park full time.
    • Route 26 via Ballyfermot Civic Centre to terminate at Palmerstown Cemetery is also indicated, although which road it takes between Chapelizod and Ballyfermot is not (my guess is Kylemore Road). Don't know why the route is not extended to Liffey Valley Centre.
    • Route 76 no longer operates via Ballyfermot; instead runs full-time between Blanchardstown Centre and Tallaght (The Square) via Liffey Valley Centre and Fonthill Road. Routes 76A and 76B appear to be cancelled.
    • New route 166 created, running between Liffey Valley Centre and Tallaght (The Square) via the outer ring road and Grange Castle Business Park.
    • Route 18 gets extended from Sandymount to the Docklands (no reason given).
So are these sensible route alterations, or do we put things at risk of over-extending bus route lengths and jeopardising on-time performance and average speeds once more?

You've made several errors in this post:

The 78 and 78a will merge with 40 and follow existing 78a routing to city (i.e. via James St and Dame St) and then to Finglas and not via the Quays/Heuston/Conyngham Road as you state.

79/79a is to merge with 27b not 20b.

26 will operate via Kylemore Road - that is the only way it can operate. That is in the first phase.

All of this is being discussed in the Dublin Bus network review thread already.

Where did they pluck the number 166 from?

Many of the proposed changes are currently being discussed on the main Network Direct thread. I wouldn't pay too much attention to the Wilson report. A lot has changed since 2000 and many of the changes are now based on the Deloitte Report.
    • Routes 78 and 78A get combined with route 40 to Finglas; new route number is 40. Service via quays, Heuston Station and Con Colbert Road not indicated.

It is proposed all route 40 buses will now run via O'Connell Street, Dame Street and Christchurch to normal route.

The 79 changes will have no affect on the 20B. The 20B will change at a later date when it is planned to merge with the 14/14A.

Yes, route 26 will operate via Kylemore Road. Liffey Valley will still be connected to Ballyfermot by the 40, and to the N4 by 25/66/67 group of routes.

There is currently no direct link to the IFSC/Docklands from Sandymount, Ballsbridge. New route 18 will open a new bus connection to this part of the city.

As already stated, this is still the consultation phase and all routes are still subject to change.
