Hi, can anybody recommend a place for an xray/mri for a possible stress fracture that is reasonably priced in Dublin?

AFAIK, the only way for you to get an x-ray/mri would be to get a referal from a doctor so you'd really have to see some first. You're best bet would be trying to find one who has a good history with sport injuries etc.

The sports surgery clinic in santry is top notch, they have a VERY high definition mri scanner. Cappagh hospital is also decent. To be honest, it's more about who reads the scan really than the place, and both of the above have the best guys in the country in terms of sports doctors. Both of them are about 400 euro a scan, but if you have health insurance it's either free on the day or you pay on the day and get it back at the end of the year. As stated, you need a doctor's referral for an mri, and it's something you have to push with a lot of them because they are hesitant to send people for them so be sure to stress how important it is to get a proper diagnosis to your doctor and how important an mri is. Oh, and don't bother with an x-ray, they are shag all use for stress fractures, mri is what you're looking for.
    Good luck!

I went through a sports physio to get my referral to a consultant. I think they are a much better bet that a doctor who I feel would not have the experience to deal with sport related injuries.

I had health insurance so I thought I would get something straight away but I had to wait a few weeks. If you have insurance before you commit to any hospital be sure and confirm that they have a billing arrangement with your insurer. In the hospital I went to they had an arrangement for everything else bar an MRI.

It cost around €400 so I ended up claiming the tax relief. You will also have to pay for the consultants appointment (around €200) as that is not covered by health insurance

+1 for the Sports Surgery Clinic in Santry.

Rather than going to my own GP, who would possibly tell me to give up running, I booked in to see one of the doctors in Santry. I think it cost €150 for the consultation (VHI day to day plan or whatever its called covers €100 of that).
She sent me for an MRI scan the same week. Thankfully health insurance covered the cost, and VHI pay the clinic directly. The doctor called me with the results within a couple of days, prior to that she thought it was muscle damage, but both herself and the radiologist picked up the stress fracture immediately on the MRI. I would definitely recommend them, great facilities, sports specialists and handy to have the doctor and the scans in the same place.1

Fingers crossed that you dont have a fracture... best of luck!

Was speaking to someone about this a while back, There have been a couple of high profile case where stress fracturs have been missed in Xray or MRI . Was told that a tuning fork can also be used but this is debated to, was told it hurts like hell if struck and placed over the injury.

Charlemount clinic. Fairly reasonable prices relative to the place in santry. I got an MRI for 250 in charlemount. They wanted 400 in santry.

Euromedic charge €195 for an MRI, with 3 locations in Dublin and others around the country, see:
    www.euromedic.ie/mri

You will need a referral letter from your doctor.
