    Hi folks,

Honeymoon planned & nearly booked but we are stopping over in New York on our way home, any recommendations for a nice hotel??
Our travel agent has recommended Mela Hotel in Times Square, tis €1000 for four nights room only! A bit overpriced esp wit no breakfast!

Bryant Park Hotel is meant to be lovely - it's a 4 star and gets great reviews on Trip Advisor. Unfortunately in NYC, if you want a 4 or 5 star, it's gonna be expensive. It's a very expensive city.

Ive stayed in the Radisson on Lexington and in the Ameritania hotel on Broadway both were great.

I cannot recommend the Fitzpatrick hotels highly enough. They are expensive but you will be treated like royalty. We stayed with them two years ago with our 4 year old and the room was fantastic, and they helped us in any way they could. We were within walking distance of the main areas (times square etc).

Ive been in NY a few times and have also stayed at Fitzpatrick Hotel but not sure Id recommend it for a honeymoon. I would recommend Renaissance Hotel Times Sqaure (part of Marriott), its pretty swanky and its location is right in times sqaure which is fantastic. I would check with the hotels own websites and hotels.com as I think Travel agents are the most expensive to book through. The exchange rate right now is quite good so booking online direct with hotel will probably get you the best deal.

heres a link to the hotel.

by the way you are unlikely to get breakfast included in most hotel rates in new york but if you stay central then you'll have loads of places nearby that you can grab breakfast.

The New Yorker on the corner of 8th Ave & 34th Street ( i think its 34th anyway) is nice and reasonably priced. Its not spectacular but is clean, functional and in a decent location without being bang in the centre. Only a few blocks from the empire st building & madison sq gardens

Right beside Penn station so on a good metro line and not that far from most things, short walk to Broadway etc

To me honeymoons should be special and a bit of a splash out on luxury but in saying that New York will be expensive for that. If you will have splashed out on yourself up to this stage you can afford to down grade a bit.
Have you been to NY before - I am thinking not as you are asking for advice?

Think of what you want to do there - shop/sight see/etc (I take it you will have all the pamper and romance of it over at this stage)

In saying all that if you want somewhere reasonable I stayed in the following holiday inn - http://www.holidayinn.com:80/hotels/us/en/new%20york%20city/nycvc/hoteldetail?cm_mmc=mdpr-_-googlemaps-_-hi-_-nycvc

It was very reasonable. For NY rooms were reasonable, very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful and location was great. (it was my 4th trip to NY)
Enjoy yourself as its a great city.
Might be best book it direct yourself then through a travel agent.

Stayed here a couple of months ago. I'd definitely recommend it and would have no hesitation in booking there again if I was going back.

My bf and i stayed in Park Central Hotel. only few minutes walk from Central Park and Times Square. We loved it. Nothing fancy but a huge room and the location was perfect. No breakfast but a lovely cafe only a block away that we had breakfast in every morning.
Can't remember how much but we wouldn't have paid much for it.

Stayed in the Library hotel recently and it was fantastic, think it as #1 or 2 on tripadvisor and would really recommend it.

Where ever you choose, definitely check it out on tripadvisor 1st. Some New York hotels can look ok by websites, but can be horrid inside. So its definitely worth checking out peoples comments on tripadvisor. Last thing you want is to be staying in a hotel thats ranked number 470 on tripadvisor ;(
