Just wondering what you guys make of him - He seems to be very highly rated by almost everyone, and is ranked the #1 Super Middleweight in the world by Ring Magazine, but personally, I'll need a bit more convincing before I make throw around bold statements like that. He has talent sure, and can bang with the best of the, but the level of competition he has been facing...well let's just say it isn't the best. Last night he knocked out Jesse Brinkley in 9 rounds, the one question I had after seeing this fight, was "What the hell is Bute doing fighting this chump?". In fact, that one line pretty much sums up his career for me thus far. I'm not going to claim to have seen all of his fights because I haven't, but I've seen enough to draw certain conclusions on him. He seems to be very selective with his opponents, and loves fighting crude brawlers with little or no technical boxing ability. Obviously him not being part of the Super Six limits the number of top guys he can fight, but eventually he's going to have to face an Andre Ward, or someone of that calibre. The big question is how will Bute deal with the top guys at 168/175 when he does eventually get into the ring with them
So I'm going to ask you how you think he'd fare against the following guys:
    Andre Ward
    Andre Dirrell
    Mikkel Kessler
    Chad Dawson
    Jean Pascal
    Arthur Abraham
    Bernard Hopkins
    Carl Froch
Kelly Pavlik(a fight is rumoured to be in the works)

I think myself that he'd almost certainly beat Pavlik, Froch and Abraham, I give him a decent shout against Pascal & Kessler, it's hard to say with Hopkins because we don't know how much Bernard has left in the tank, but I wouldn't be at all suprised to see B-Hop pull it off(I've the same view on Hopkins vs Pascal btw), even after the Pascal loss I see Dawson giving Bute nightmares and coming out with a fairly wide decision, I think Dirrell's style would cause him problems too, and I think Ward almost certainly beats him

    Trash it out amongst yourselves:)

i think he's too past it now. he was atrocious in the fight against Jones- it was like a hugging contest by the middle rounds rather than a fight.

I know ya, but what he did to Winky was master class, wasn't that long ago either.

Brinkley was a mandatory, as was Andrade the first time, the Bika fight was an eliminator, and I think Berrio was the title holder when Bute fought him. I think you're being a bit harsh there.

Who has Ward really fought that was so much better than the guys Bute has been fighting? Kessler? Yes, but he was semi-retired since the Calzaghe fight, very rusty, and Ward was allowed to get away with murder in that fight.

Other than that, Bute's opposition is better than Ward's, in my opinion.

Bute needs a big fight. He can take it easy and coast against guys like Brinkley and step it up when needs be. If he gets a fight against one of the big names in the division, we'll see where he really stands. He has a lot of ability.

I love watching Bute, one of my favorite fighters. He may be considered no. 1 in the division but everyone accepts that it's a very closely fought division and tough to call. I think that only welterweight is more packed with talent.

If I had to bet, i'd say Bute beats everyone in the division, but i'm biased in fairness cause I don't like Ward. Few agree on the winner of Bute and Ward, it's going to happen so we'll just have to wait and see what happens
