Library :(

I just received an overdue notice from the Library for a counter reserve book that was due back on Thursday evening, the problem is I actually returned the book along with another that I borrowed on time, into the basket on the counter reserve desk at the BLU counter. The fine will be around €25 by the time I get to the library on monday, and as you can imagine I really don't want to pay it since I brought the book back!
Has this ever happened to anyone else?! I used counter reserve a lot last year and this is the first time its happened to me!

    Oh no! Poor you.. :(

On a lighter note how does counter reserve work?? Like do I just go up to the counter and say "I want THIS book!" and they get it or....?

There's an area behind the counter you can walk into, look for the book you want, then check it out at the desk. Return to the same desk hours later.

It's quite handy really for all the books that seem to be constantly on loan all year round.

...and if you have it out for over five hours, there's a fine of 25 cent an hour.

If you are genuine and explain your case to them they should let you off. Generally they are pretty reasonable when it comes to stuff like this.

If you can grab the book off the counter reserve shelf and bring it to the desk we'd have no reason not to believe you..mistakes sometimes get made so dont worry!

I know this is kinda off topic but where do I go to print stuff off in the library?

This has happened to me before, they're pretty reasonable about it. Just explain the situation to them, and find the exact book in the library and bring it to them (they will be able to tell you the code of the exact copy you borrowed).

Not really worth opening another thread for so I'll just ask here: is it okay to request non academic books from the Santry stacks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 865 ✭✭✭Unshelved

Of course you can - request whatever you like! It's very unlikely that you'll have access to a Library of this size again so you may as well make the most of it.

No more than five requests a day mind.

It's a personal hobby of mine. They have all sorts of rubbish. Katie Price novels being a personal favourite of mine.

Thought this question wasn't worth opening a new thread, which part of the library are books with callshelf arts in them, e.g. Arts 658 N40

I may be wrong, but ARTS-codes are normally in the Lecky Library. I think anything with 658 will be in the Business or Management section.

You can actually check this by the way. All you need to do is consult the lists at the entrance to the libraries. They´ll tell you where the different shelves are located.

ARTS are in parts of the Lecky, Ussher and Berkeley. Basically, a lot of the books that aren't LEN (lending) are labelled ARTS, and they're often mixed in with the LEN books. Look for the number, rather than the word :) (ie. find out where the 658s are, rather than the ARTS books).
