I just got this error on start.
    I restarted and it worked.
Is it likely to happen again?
The motherboard on my laptop has been replaced more than once, and the hard disc has been replaced once...other parts might have been replaced too I have a combination of a really unreliable computer and really good after sales service (tis years old incidentally).
Is there some part that identifies my computer having been replaced, and now it thinks it's a pirate?
But I haven't had anything replaced in months.
But the last time I did I discovered it didnt fix the problem (constant freezing) but that changing the power settings to maximum did for some reason.

tl;dr: Parts replaced; windows 7 not genuine error on boot once; is it likely to recur; if it might how do i stop it?

Ring Microsoft activation and they will give you the code to bypass this.

That's the thing to do alright, I had to do it for a computer before and I was nervous ringing them expecting a big grilling in relation to why I was having a problem in the first place (what with their super copyright protecting) but they just sorted it out immediately with a couple of small questions.

:) I got this message too some time ago, I had exceeded by re-installation limit.

A very nice Indian gentleman asked me as part of the verification "And how many machines have you this software on!?"

    "Five!" I replied.

    "Oh yes, I see .. you're activated!"

What no "have a nice day"?

Thanks for the replies. It's odd because it just happened the once, and I've started it two or three times since it came up without issue.

Two things: It MAY have activated automatically itself. OR it may just be waiting out the time period, I think it's only 3 days for reactivation.

You might see a small icon in the tray with a small red 3 or some-such. It won't get in your face so you might not see it each reboot.

But we'll take it that it activated itself routinely.

It says it's activated on the system properties. I think it was a one-off glitch.
