Without the Gi Judo is just wrestling.

Well there is a discipline called no-gi judo starting to gather momentum.
I know Wrestling is not so big in Ireland but Judo is fairly big so I thought you might have no-gi Judo classes before Greco-Roman.

Nope, only one I know which might come close is Andy Ryan's BJJ revolution in Baldoyle. But definitely no 'no-gi Judo' - I suspect thats someone trying to cash in on the whole 'No-Gi' BJJ etc.. But without the Judogi its wrestling with some takedowns used in Judo.

Maybe next we'll have camo-gi's or Judogi covered in silly patches :P

    I suppose anything is possibel.
I would imagine that the idea of not having the Judogi is to have it aimed more towards mma (unified rules) in which the gi is no longer allowed.

Possibly, and I'm not against training without the Gi. I've done lots of it, I just don't consider it Judo.

Marketing forces and TV will dictate where most sports go. Certainly the whole BJJ marketing has been very successful, with a lot of young guys training in BJJ and almost believing it to be MMA.

I've also noticed a lot of cross over/training from the BJJ guys to learning Judo for their take downs, its also gone the other way too. Where some Judoka have gone cross training in BJJ to refine their ground work.

One club I train in now has a very strong BJJ influence on its training - Portmarnock Judo Club's head coach is Ray Stears (BJJ purple belt).

But getting back to no-gi Judo, IMO its just wrestling then. But, if it works and people like it then call it what you will and get people off their arse's in training.. Its all good.

Like I said, call it what you like.. If it gets people training then its all good isn't it?.

Btw, the osteopath treatment is working great - still pain free :D
