Anybody else annoyed with the pass rates of both the summer and autumn sittings of MA? With this subject being the one where notes (or lack of) are very questionable (excuse the pun), the size of the course (this course could easily be split in two or have some continuous assessme, the lectures are purely focused on questions as opposed to explaining topcs, the questions are deliberately confusing and the fact not all topics are covered in the lectures is it a case of shut up and put up or are there others out there with the same feelings?

For the record the numbers passing the autumn sitting was 125 out of 236 (53%). It was a similar number in June. I'm sure there were many very unfortunate individuals losing there jobs today and the back of this paper.

    Am I alone.....

Management is just one of those subjects.

Believe me I completely understand your pain ... i was on my fourth and final attempt to pass this exam and I was lucky I just got the 50. In fact I was lucky to even be allowed to resit the exam. The failure rate for this subject has always been the 50% mark even when it was a combined subject with finance in the old prof system, hell if you look at CAP2 its combined again (SFMA) and the failure rate for that is shocking.

I have heard that the are introducing continuous assessment this year for CAP1. But I dont know how benificial that will really be.

I found the notes werent great but you cannot knock the question packs given out by the dublin lecturer... I think we had well over 200 sample questions and that did help alot as no 2 qestions were the same.

If its any help to anyone out there who is allowed to resit next year can i recommend the Drury college book for management. Wthout that i think i would have failed.... had to change my whole approach to studying this subject by spending more time trying to understand the topics and then I was ruthless with my timing in the exam.

Definately get that book though it really helped me alot... also good for CAP1 finance if anyone got caught with that.

    Good luck

Thanks Hockey Girl - do you have the full name of the 'Drury college book for management' you refer to?

I'm still debating whether to enrol again for MA, or just go it alone for the year....but with the addition of Continuous Assessment I'm leaning towards enrolling for fear of missing any direction in this regard. Anybody else in this predicament?

    Hey is called
Management and Cost Accounting by Colin Drury. I think I got mine in waterstones on dawson st dublin.
Should be able to get it in any good bookshop or maybe second hand on amazon.
There is a student manual you can buy seperate to the book which is just a huge question bank.... dont really need that though.

Im keeping my copy for CAP2 as it'll be handy for quick revision.

    Good luck!

    Role on Cap2... eeeeek lol

Thanks but unfortunately got the expected news today though. One bright point was I got a higher percent than I expected but still failed. Hopefully get to stay in my masters though!
