Was looking at a nice Rover 45 today.
Don't have a clue about cars but someone told me parts for it are hard to get.
    Is this true?
Anything good bad or indifferent to say about the Rover 45?

You'll have no bother with parts, I encountered similar when selling a Rover 400 diesel 2 years ago, a lady was very interested in it yet her brother warned her off due to this parts issue  A mechanic travelled down for Wexford and gave me a decent lash of cash for it a week later :D

If the one you are looking at is a 1.4 or 1.6 petrol pay particular attention to the gearbox to ensure it is not whining etc. Also check to see coolant is clear and not excessively murky.

I had a Rover 45 until year and half ago.
I can honestly say that I was more than happy with the car. The only problem I had with the car was head gasket.
But I had a mechanic who fixed it for good price. The only major issue is the head gasket. Make sure the coolant is clean and that the engine is not overheating.
Otherwise I think Rover 45 is quite a good car and it can be bought for little money these days. And it represents good value for money.

    What year/milage?

Check service history and ask if cambelt has ever been changed.
If not , it will need to be done asap and will cost a few quid (you may be able to knock a few €'s off the price for this)
Cambelt change every five years or so for all rovers.
Owner should have 2 sets of keys . Keys will be hard to replace now as you can imagine.
As previous poster said - check coolant and under oil cap for mayo/sludge as you don't want to buy a head gasket on its way out!

Overall great car and will last for years when serviced regular though.

    Thanks for the replies.
Its an 05, 61,000k new timing belt.
    Good idea about the keys!

O5, more than likely has a Ford box so :) One less thing to worry about. As well as both keys, ensure both fobs are working. Also the owner should have a credit card sized card with some codes on it, radio code, EKA code etc. The EKA code can disarm the immobiliser should you need to (ie both fobs not working, possible if you lose one and the other dies in a few years :) )

My mother had a 45 for a few years a good while back... It was comfortable car, felt like a much more expensive car then it actually was. Ours developed a tappet noise and some minor cooling issues, a metal coolant pipe at the back of the engine corrodes easily and leaks coolant.

Not the worst car in the world, a reasonable car to run about in.
