combining aerials

I would like to combine two aerials, one for Saorview (3 rock, ch 54) and the other for Freeview (Arfon chs 41 and 44). Is there a diplexer available for this? I presume just using a standard Y splitter/combiner thing would not work?
I do get 3 rock on the back of the Arfon aerial but with current conditions it is subject to dropouts and breakup so thinking a dedicated aerial would help. Thanks for any advice.

    A Y splitter may work.
The expensive alternative is Helical filters. Diplexers are generally good only for separate bands, not groups.

you could use a group b filter on your Afron aerial downlead, and a group cd filter on your Three Rock aerial downlead, combine them with a combiner with DC pass for your Afron aerials amp.

Diplexers are widespread in Ireland I thought? Though technically Group A to Group E is a Band 4/5 diplexer. They're used everywhere in Louth for example to join Ch 52-68 from Clermont Carn and Ch 21-31 from Divis near Belfast all on the one cable.

Sure aren't all domestic aerial diplexers based around a combiner with a filter on each leg for the unwanted frequencies? This example is unsuitable for combining Three Rock digital and Arfon but http://www.tvtrade.ie/triax-uhf-diplexer-tfc-3537.html

Thanks all for the suggestions.....I'll try the cheapest one first (Y splitter) and see how that goes.

I'd expect a Y splitter to work for all-digital broadcasts where the signal is strong to begin with. Analogue reception may have some ghosting or other patterned interference from unfiltered combiners but I've never tried it, it's just an educated guess on my part!

When you say a 'y' splitter, are you talking about the really cheap little white ones or a more expensive version?

Just coming back on this one. I tried the cheap plastic Y splitter and it attenuated the Arfon signal to an unusable level (even with only one input connected).
I have now installed a "Fringe K-CD Special 50-52 Diplexer thru-both NC (FED/11)" and all is working well. Dropped a few percent on signal strength but much more stable and usable.

    SPECIFICATIONS
    Combines: Channels 21 - 50 with Channels 52 - 68
    Through power on both legs
    Through loss 1db.
Out of band rejection - 20db.

i'm picking up both soarview and freeview uk [arfon, ch 41,42.47]. on my wideband aerial. just up the road from you in the gallops.
    no need for two aerials.

The OP already mentioned that using one aerial was causing problems unfortunately.

Where did you get the diplexer from, and how much?

Sam, I got it from VANJAK, approx £5. Good service, I had it 24 hours after ordering.
