Zombies are here and you're stuck in gridlock!

You have been on vacation for a week at the beach. Gruesome murders have started occurring in your vacation area and the nation is in belief that there is some sort of cult demonstration based on how destroyed the bodies are. You decided to end your vacation early and while packing your things to leave a popular radio host uses the word "undead" which turns the entire place into a larger frenzy than it already is in. You are now caught in the mass escape, which funny enough moves at next to zero MPH on the highway.

While the rest of the idiots on the road do not seem to have plan, you know where you are going. Your bug out location is a secluded area near your house. It's fully loaded for this situation, but sadly it is also still a 6 hour drive away from your vacation destination. Looking in the rear view mirror you see them working their way towards you, hundreds of slow walking undead peeling through the cars one by one killing anything they can get their hands on. People are beginning to get out of their cars and run, the screams of those behind you are getting close... you need to act.

Here is where you find yourself.
Gridlock on the highway, a 6 hour drive (330 miles at 55mph) from your bug out location.
Your car is trapped on the highway.
You have whatever you had with you on your beach vacation.

What moves do you make in order to ensure you and your family's survival? What steps do you take to make the trip to your safe house?

Ive still got my boogie board from my beach holiday. I whip it out and start legging it down the highway away from the zombies. I come up to a bridge, its over the river Liffey. Dive off the bridge in an action hero style just as the zombies are about to grap me. Manage a sweet landing onto the water :cool:.

Ride my boogie board all the way to my town . . . . .

Grab the wheel brace from the boot as a weapon, and peg it. Seriously, if I was ending a holiday early because I thought the Zeds were coming, I'd stay off the motorway and hopefully have a bicycle in the car.

I dont have a 4x4 but I would pick up my baseball bat in the boot and lump hammer. Once armed I would run like the wind down the motorway until i find a 4x4.

Steal the 4x4 and make for the hills not looking back.

i have a motorbike so i can move through this gridlock with relative ease but i cant carry much supplies and have virtually no protection. i would drive my bike untill the traffic eased off then steal the first abandoned car i could find.

If the zeds are close enough to see, it's time to stop thinking and start running, straight survival.
Get on top of the cars and go roof to roof across the traffic,avoiding any possible zeds ahead of me in their cars and having a clear view of the horde behind at all times.Literally every second counts and I'm not wasting those precious seconds on planning ahead.

Maybe you guys will get back to your stronghold faster,but it's a fool who is so set in his plan that he'd risk a few minutes in front of the horde for a slightly higher chance of getting home.

Firstly, I'd Get off the highway, up onto the emabankment. It will give me a better picture of whats going on. It will be hard for the (slow) undead to manouvre up the embankment but not impossibe. It will buy me time though.

I'm going to presume that theres fields beside the highway. So I will get into the countryside and follow the direction of the highway but stay off the roads where the poulation is. Grab a big stick at first. Then gradually build up better weapons. I think 20 miles a day by foot would be maximum in this situation, maybe less so it could take up to 3 weeks reach the bug out location.

There will of course be obstacles along the way, to say the least but there will also be advantages.

If after 1 week I'm still alive then I will have a good chance of getting there.

Can't wait to see the Walking Dead on TV
