    Guys,

I bought the iphone 4 on release day itself. I love the phone. Its great and the features are all brilliant.
Except for the fact that everytime i make or recieve a call, the call automatically gets disconnected, or mutes. Sometimes it puts the other person on hold and dials another number from my contact !!!!

I thought this was a problem with my particular phone only but apparently there are others who have this problem. Its a proximity sensor issue. Any of you guys have this problem ? If so how did u get rid of it?

    Cheerz

What software version are you running? This issue was supposed to have been fixed with 4.1.

I am running on 4.1 as well. I am thinking of going to a vodafone store and ask for a replacement.

    Still happening on 4.1

The proximity sensor is not working properly (software thresholds need further tweaking?), and is keeping the screen active when the phone is being held to the ear, but you can get it to work by shifting the phone a bit:

During a call, I now keep a watch out of the corner of my eye (literally) on whether or not the display is lit - if it is, it means that the in-call options (hang up, second call, etc) are active, and can be unintentionally activated by contact with my cheek - I just move the phone a little on my ear, to activate the proximity sensor, so that the screen goes black (and inactive).

It's not ideal, but I haven't had any issues since I started keeping an eye on it...

4.1 did not fix it for me and tbh it doesn't make sense that it fixed it for some and not others so I'm gonna guess that it actually fixed it for nobody but some havent realise yet.

Also, there was a strange problem with the inconsistent power button. Sometimes during a call it would lock the phone and at other times it would hang up the call. Very odd.

The most popular problem for me now is the phone activating the key pad and then foaming digits during the call.

 4.1 has been out a long time, I was losing at least a call every other day or so to a hang up before 4.1. None since. So it did fix it for me, no matter what you are 'gonna guess'.

It's been widely reported that 4.1 fixed in for some people and not for others indicating a possible HW rather than SW fault with some phones.

re the inconsistent sleep/wake button, it hangs up a call in normal use. Locks the screen if on headset or using speakerphone. (or at least thats how it works on my phone and I believe is the correct operation.
