    Hello,

The Other day i noticed a vertical line of dead pixels on my vaio laptop screen and thought nothing much of it as I thought this was a regular thing. Yet yesterday I tried to move a piece of sut off the screen and as soon as my thumb made contact with the screen half the screen went dead and is permantly white with lines of dead pixels while the other half works.

I sent an email to sony and i am outside the warratny period yet they can repair it for a cost. Im just wondering what kind of price I will be looking at as I presume Ill need a new screen?

I dont want to get it repaired to find out the final bill is going to be ridiculous.

    Thanks.

Dont go near sony to get it fixed it will cost 300 + to get it done by them.

What model is it ive got a few x-black lcds at home ?

The cost of repair with sony will be crazy. I've had a few vaio laptops over the years and I looked into getting the screen repaired on one. They wanted over €100 just to send it away for a quote. Go to a reputable computer shop and they will sort it for a reasonable cost. I'm sure someone will make a recommendation if you let us know the general area you live in.

    Cheers,

You best bet is to either find a shop that fix's laptops or see if some one on here can fit a new screen for you you could always buy a screen on line and give it ago your self as long as you can use a screw driver its not that hard at all.

If you are ever between dublin and dundalk i can fit a new screen for you cheap.

Thanks alot for that, yea hopefully I might find someone in Galway/Mayo, but yea I might have family going to Dublin soon, I'll let you know, want to get this sorted pretty fast. What kind of costs would I be looking at outside of Sony?

About 170 -200 that would be for a single lamp lcd not sure if yours is a single or a double a single will still work.

It might be cheaper out your way that is how much it costs in Dublin.

I can fit a new screen for you in Galway, I'm near GMIT. Is this what you're seeing:

The screen definitely needs replacing if that's the case. For a new single lamp, glossy screen for the Sony Vaio NS30E/S fitted it would be 160. PM me if you're interested.
