Just passed without advisories ...next NCT due 17.12.2012 :)

From then on it will be annual for me.
But then again ...by that time the van will be 22 years old, so I guess that's fair enough

Do you mind me asking how you can bring a van to the NCT ?
I thought that the only van requirement was a DOE every year.
    Cheers

Because my van has windows and five seats in it (ex factory) and is therefore registered, insured, taxed and NCT'd as a passenger vehicle.

Still couldn't really call it a car though :D

Well, at the moment thats only a proposal. Its not the law yet, there is a great chance, that it will come into effect next year, but nothing has been decided yet.

what i'm more concerned about is the suggestion that they might change the tax rules regarding a car that was off the road, meaning you could never declare that a car was off the road when you go to tax it, and would have to pay arrears regardless of whether it was used or not, so if liek me you had a car which was has been off the road 3 years, restored it and then wanted to use it, you'd have to pay arrears all the way back.

You WONT have to pay arrears!
You just declare it OFF ROAD for whatever period, and then tax it whenever you decide to put it back on the road (just like the current UK 'SORN' system).
Its basically to stop people driving about and then declaring their car "off the road" whenever they decide t tax it again.
(It's an offense to do so at present anyway, but few ppl are prosecuted for it. The new rule would simply tighten up the system)

Cosmo K, it was signed off with everything else on 21st December 2009, to commence 1st June 2011. So it's not a proposal, it has already been decided.

Road Traffic (National Car Test) Regulations 2009

    (Section 3, sub-paragraph (2)(b)(i))

Ok, but they haven't told us, and I work that crowd......

If they really bring it in form next year, they better start building a few more test centers.

I suppose they like to keep things quiet. That regulation has 3 waves. Items dated from 4th Jan 2010, 1st Apr 2010 & 1st Jun 2011.

The stupid thing is the registration system which gives a bulge in sales at the start of the calendar year AND linking this with the NCT due dates = bulge in tests required.

Something like a MOT is better in some ways in that the cert if valid from day of issue for a set period (between 12 and 13 months)

Oh this comes in from June!! :D

I thought it was January, my '99 car is due in Feb (not exactly a classic but this is relevant to me) so I'll be getting 2 years test.
