just like with wine I go by price (which doesn't always mean the best).
That's actually a good way to deal with a thing which you intend to buy, but that you know will depreciate quickly because a newer better one will be out soon! With any technology, it's too easy to say "sure if i wait 3 months, i'll get a better deal". Then in 3 mmonths, "sure if i wait.." you'd be waiting forever. Better off deciding how much you want to spend, then get the best bang for your monopoly money.

not too sure what you linked to there, the URL was a bit screwy. Was it the Inspiron N5030? It's enough for what you've said: Home use, e-mail, uploading photos, dvds, cd, skype, surfing the web. Personally, Celeron processors don't cut it. They're budget end processors, and to be fair, you're on a budget. But when you try to do anything on the laptop, it will be sluggish, and you'll have second thoughts about why you bought it. I'd aim for a dual core pentium at least if you're looking. Preferably a core 2 duo (yep, they're different from dual core). A Intel i3 would be great. You want a minimum of 1GB RAM, preferably 2. But this you can upgrade and add to easily in the future. Hard disk space i never usually worry about, you can always add additional USB storage.

I have to say, i'm not impressed with the value out there at the moment. I bought a pretty good (at the time) laptops of laptopsdirect.ie about 2 years ago for under €500, inc. deliver, which was if i remember, less than 24 hrs

It's nice that you're doing this for your folks. I did the same for my dad so i could keep in touch with him. So feel free to pm me if you've any questions or a question on something you spot in the shops or elswhere.

    Hey Sigma Force,

just spotted this deal in Tesco out at Nutgrove and i remembered your post.

full specs on that model: one, two.

they had other ones for less, but with Celeron processors. Am not a big fan of those myself!
