    Hi All,

Just wondering where would be the best place to buy cycling shoes, shorts, jerseys and glasses? Would i be best to source them online?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Chain reaction cycles is pretty good. Free postage and decent prices as well as a lot of different items in stock which generally means you'll find what you're looking for and have a choce in how much you want to spend.

Online is normally the cheapest, though some things, shoes and shorts mainly, are best bought in a shop. Or if you get anything for a comparable price locally, then the service from an LBS is usually decent.

http://probikekit.com/ is one site that I find quite good. Free shipping, and it gets to me in Germany normally in 3-4 days. http://cyclesuperstore.ie/ is a good Irish site, and they have a shop in Tallaght, if you're in Dublin.

There are piles of sites, though. Make sure you shop around as prices can vary on a particular item. CRC are good, though their prices have been creeping up.

I agree with Coronal. probikekit.com is great I have bought a good chunk of stuff off there.

In relation to getting shoes I suggest finding a LBS and trying a pair on so you know they fit well then you could buy online if there is a big savings to be had on what you want.

While you are in the shop, put your hand in the till and take a few quid. They won't mind.

I'd agree with RAAM on this one. The LBS does provide you with a service, but it's not a fitting service. If you want to try before you buy; LBS, otherwise you take the risk with buying online.

To be fair, a lot of sites, Wiggle especially, normally have little problem with exchanging wrongly sized things, you just have to pay to get it back to them.

That's a bit unfair! Poster did specify "big" saving. I don't mind paying a little extra for the convenience of picking something up locally but a little is all I'll pay. If the shop has a big markup then I won't pay it.

I too have noticed CRC is starting to get pricey. Probikeit is expensive for a lot of things but they have some great bargains. Their 7-day sales can be very good but you have to be quick. I've had Nalini shorts for a tenner, bib-tights for £13, arm and leg warmers for under a tenner. Yes, I'm a cheapskate, no need for anyone to point it out.

I've been finding www.cyclesuperstore.ie the cheapest on a couple of items and once you make one order (I think) you become a regular customer and get further reductions. The sites I float between are: cyclesuperstore, chainreactioncycles, prendas, trikotexpress, Probikekit. Also if you're looking for clothing some of the teams are/ will be flogging off this years gear cheaply such as Skil Shimano.
