Strange Emergency Vehicles

Ok folks, slightly confused and need the good people on Boards to help me out. I saw 3 Emergency Vehicles over the last few days that have left me totally confused.

Firstly, I was out near the Red Cow Roundabout this morning, and I saw a blue motorbike with a blue light on a pole/stick, similar to Garda motorbikes. The rider had a high viz jacket on and a white helmet. Now I think the army have bikes like this but not sure, so any help would be nice.

Second case, I was in Chapelizod this evening and I saw a black unmarked Range Rover jeep with a roof mounted lightbar. The jeep had some writing on it but could not read it as it was flying towards town with lights and sirens on.

Thirdly, I was on the Navan road and I saw an army jeep with a blue lightbar on the roof, heading into town. Any idea what this jeep is used for?

    Blue bike is Army

army Jeep is military police,as Gardai don't have jurisdiction over military personnel

What are the army bikes used for? I have seen them in parades before and such but never just out on their own like today.

Army outriders are there for offical occasions, they are also the courier service for ministerial documents to the President. Might at a push be the PA in the PDF.

LifeLine have one if I am not mistaken, the owner uses it. Could be wrong.

Defo the PA in the Irish Army, they have lights to mark out the Military Police vehicles. Alo the EOD have blue lights so might have been a forward support vehicle for the EOD lads.

yes it's a largely ceremonial duty
I guess the one you seen was probably out on instruction,so you probably just missed another one or two bikes,I've never seen one on it's own

If it was a Deauville it might have been going to or been in Honda, Ballymount. Close by and they service alot of the bikes.

If I'm not mistaken, the blue bikes are on the way out and are being replaced by newer green bikes, which is a shame really as it's the last visible connection to the old Blue Hussars who formerly guarded the President.

New 2Cav bikes, Chorcai posted these elsewhere on boards:

If it has a strobe on a stick it was a Military Police Suzuki Bandit. They use it for escorting oversize convoys.

The Deauville does not have any strobes in army use.

They were offered them, but the MPs decided to do their own thing.
They also overloaded the boxes(which are add on) meaning the bandits are very unstable at speed. Worth noting that most of the MP bandits have been crashed at some stage. Unlike the Cavalry deauvilles, which are green.

Nobody else uses that type of bike for the role the MPs use it for. Most other countries use Police Type bikes. Not pocket rockets with strobes and luggage.

What makes you think Gardaí have no jurisdiction over military personnel? I'm interested.

    :confused::confused::confused::confused:

Im bemused by both statements! Of course Garda have jurisdiction over military personnel AND military vehicles.....however military vehicles are subject to some RTA exemptions....IE abnormal loads etc etc.

If any of the Defence Forces have a traffic collision they MUST inform AGS......and several have been prosecuted as a result of this.

The PDF has its own speed limit for their vehicles on national roads and at times you will see the PA's out with a radar gun waiting on some of the green trucks or jeeps. Am sure the bikes are under the same guidelines.

    Ehhhhh What??

Where do folks get these ideas?????

Any mechanically propelled vehicle used on a Public Road is under the "jurisdiction" of AGS.

The PDF MP's carry out their own speed checks on their own from time to time but there is no barrier to a Garda stopping an Army vehicle for speeding if detected, not that I've ever seen one speeding, very disciplined driving if you ask me.

Same goes for all laws, being a member of the defence forces does not exempt anyone from being dealt with by AGS.

The MP's simply investigate and enforce the Military regulations and laws, there is nothing stopping a member of AGS arresting a member of the defence forces.

Gardai don't however have power to enforce the military regulations or laws, i think this is where you are getting confused.

I no theres a couple of "un-marked" Fire services jeeps going round with strobes in all the same places as ags un-marks.

very interesting,i thought as they have their own speed traps it meant AGS couldn't stop a military vehicle for speeding,i stand corrected!

It would make more sense if the PA's had the same bikes as AGS / NAS ie deauvilles, pans etc . The bandit is not suitable for what they are using them for.

    Check again.

You seem to know a lot of law without actually providing any to back up your statement.

If you know different you may want to show proof too.
