    Hi!
I think that we all can get some benefit of putting in common crazy or original ideas for our weddings!!
for example... I am thinking on asking some friends to come with fancy dress... all in 1 theme, like the 60's, or hippies... but nobody else will know... so when 20 people arrive like that, can be good fun!! and these friends are happy with it :p

    any bright idea to share??

We had a sweet shop packed with sweet from the 80's, i.e. refreshers, animal bars. Went down fantastically

From viewing a popular wedding forum there are some uncommon/common ideas floating around, things like ferrero rocher trees

Just another website I found with original wedding ideas. It's not a wedding blog but it has a good few wedding posts and the blogger is irish so more relevant than others I have been looking at.

Cocktails instead of wine for the guests at the meal, cost us a fortune (even at 1 per head) but everyone still mentions it to this day!

photo wall of bride & groom from childhood etc or wedding photos of parents also.

There is so much you can do different if you want & are brave enough!!

We did a talent competition where guests had to get up and perform. Major hassle organising but very good fun.

We also recorded some of our songs (with a wacky zany theme) and played them over the dinner.

I would suggest get your own ideas - always good to be original, Most weddings are so formulated they can get a bit boring unless you're a big drinker.

a rainbow wedding... something like this for bridesmaids and this for flowers and this for cake. Basically whatever you want goes: its quirky and fun.... Oh and you could have a different colour theme for each table then with different coloured napkins etc (our hotel matches to the bridesmaids foc so shouldnt cost anything!): you could have pink, blue, green, turquoise etc! And if you really wanted to push the boat out you could even have the bride get invlved with her dress! As you can see I love the idea it is so different and funky, and just a little bit hippy!

I really loved it, but my other half hated the idea :(

+1 for the cocktail reception. A friend of mine had a cosmo and chocolate fountain reception. Best fun ever!

I love photobooths at weddings, so much fun- went to a wedding where it printed 2 black and white strips of 4 photos, one for you and one for the couple. You stuck them in a scrap book and wrote a message, deadly fun.

I heard of a wedding in an old house where people brought their own booze and took turns to do the bar. Free beer and no staff costs!!

Whatever works out cheap. Dont want to be blowing all your money on 1 day. At least wait til after the budget before making huge money commitments for a wedding. Gonna need some tight pockets for a happy future ;)

Magneticimpluse the economy forum is that way--->
Bride and grooms to be aren't thick, actucally they're probably more concious of money then the average joe since they're planning a wedding.
I know I'm sick to death of people asking me why I'm planning a wedding in a recession, the question usually comes from people who spent €20k or more on their wedding a few years ago.
I've noticed you're littering the wedding forum with posts concerning the up coming budget, you might think its just some nice welcome advice, but tbh its draining, please give it up.

My friend had rice krispie buns as a wedding cake, stacked like cupcakes in coloured cases , it looked fantastic. I think its a great idea and something fun.

I totally agree about the recession, no mention of it for this happy occasion of yours! just to add a few points for you,I recently attended a wedding, where they had no videographer and had a friend set up a camera boot, where guests recorded a message instead of writing one in guest book, it was absolutely hilarous on the day to record and even better when we saw it back... a must! getting married in 2 years myself and that is number one on my list, also another great idea is place best men, ushers or you dressed up friends on various tables scathered throughout the room and get them to give speeches and read cards from there, this was done at another wedding and s was really nice to include everyone! :o best of luck with ideas

    Thank you. Just, Thank you.

It's nobody's business what people are or are not spending on their wedding; if a couple can afford it then why the hell not.

A marriage is not some economic exercise. I'm certainly not going to postpone my wedding, or not have the wedding I want *just* because we are in a recession. I grew up a recession in the eighties, and I'm still here, and I did just fine, so I see no reason why life should stop this time round.

A wedding day might just be a day, but it's an important day, even to us non Brideszilla types, so forgive us for wanting to do it right.

Maybe you will understand better when you are actually planning your own wedding as opposed to commenting on what other people are doing:)

Whats the best way to organise a photo booth???Sounds a great idea...:D

Instead of a guest book, friends of ours had blank canvases on the wall and people drew/wrote something. Bit by bit throughout the night, the decoration of the place came alive :)

Myself and a fellow bridesmaid made these for the brides wedding last sept. Turned out absolutely beautiful. Used cocktail sticks to keep fererros in. Bucket can be spray painted silver too, looks really well. You can basically use these for any kind of sweet. But we did three and placed them around the wedding cake. People loved them. I also wrapped white ribbon going down the cane into the pot. Make sure the bamboo cane is solidly held in the bottom as the top becomes quite heavy. Go to wholesalers for the Fererros if u know someone with musgrave card.
