So "Santa" is bringing Wii for a 5 year old boy.
    Whats the ideal starter pack?
    Thanks.

You get Wii sports with it which is fun to play. I'd get a mario game then. New Super Mario Bros Wii is excellent and you can play it multiplayer. Mario Galaxy might be too advanced for him. Also get some extra wiimotes if you want to play multiplayer. Boom Blox is a good game for all the family and kids love the raving rabbids games, I saw a set of three of them together in stores.

MarioKart is another great game for young kids, they love the wheel. At 5 they should be well capable of holding the accelerate button down too (My 19 month old hasn't grasped the connection between the button being pressed and the car moving yet, but objects to other people touching her controller)

My 6yr old loves Mario Kart it came in a deal from smyths (santa) last yr. Any of the mario ones and you can't go too far wrong.

I agree with the above. Wii sports and Mario are the way to go. Then as birthdays and such come around let them decide what is good and what is not.
