Hi there..myself and my partner are in the process of buying a 3 bed detached bungalow in Wicklow town..it turns out the estate doesn't have piped gas..Bord Gais are saying I'd need to get at least 20% of the estate to sign up before they'll bring it to the estate which sounds a right pain in the ass..does anyone know how much it would be to fit an oil central heating system from start to finish for that size property? a ball park figure would be sufficient for now..thanks..

do you mean the entire house is fitted with storage heaters? are there at least pipes and radiators in the house? I'm no expert by any means, but i'd say it would cost a small fortune to retrofit a house with central heating, gas or oil!

If it's a total new fit out it depends how you want it done, you have the option to run the pipes for rads surface from attic to rads. OR you can chase the floors and take up the upstairs floors and run through the joicing. The first option being easier, faster and much cheaper;) I'd say for material and labour the first way about 6000 depending on house and materials used.
Ps. thats a very approximate figure

yeah I also have to agree about 6000 to 7000 grand would be a good price. it all depends on whst you want eg how many zones, location of the boiler, cyclinder insulation etc etc.

about 4k sterling for materials and 2k sterling labour or so, roughly. if you're going by regs u need condensing boiler, bunded tank, motorised valves, roomstats/zones, byepass etc. so 4k is rough estimate without knowing room sizes etc for rads

Hi lads..thanks for your opinions on this..this was roughly the figure I was quoted around the place..I'd be going with the "via the attic for pipes" option.it's quite a small property so probably wouldn't need too many rads...it is something that we've budgeted for so it'll be worth the investment..yes, it has storage heaters throughout unfortunately so it'll be a "from square one" job...a nice little earner for someone during the recessio! Thanks again..
