My fiancée and I are the first Irish wedding in our families and I was wondering whether we should consider hiring a wedding planner\consultant. Have any of you tried this route? Did it save money and hassle?

We're in Kildare - so any recommendations would be good :)

No need - all you need to do is research, research and research! Just put some effort in and you'll know what you need to organise the big day. I haven't gotten married (yet!) but I'm always on here and weddingsonline.ie so that I'm prepared for when the big day comes. I have learned a HUGE amount of information as a result of that.

Head on over to the discussion forum on weddingsonline.ie - that's your best bet, and put the money that you save on a wedding planner towards the honeymoon!

i agree with tinkerbell it is an unnecessary expense, there is plenty of information online and even in this forum alone any questions you have will be answered, i'd spend the money on something else tbh

Hiring a wedding planner can definitely save hassle, time, money and stress.
If you get in with a planner at the starting stage of planning your wedding she should be able to take your current budget, take out her fees and get all of your suppliers, vendors and venue still within that budget.
So you won't even be spending any additional money.
And you know that the suppliers and vendors will have been researched already, are available on your date, within your budget and recommended already by the planner. It's her reputation at stake after all so she will get you the best!
Also, all of the recommendations and advice in the world won't physically be there for you to do all of the running around, review contracts, go to vendor meetings with you and be there on the day to make sure all is to your specs and standards.
I think that is called saving you time, money and hasstle!!
go for it.! there are great planners in the Dublin Kildare area. Google them! it's no harm to talk to a few.
