    Hey,

Just wondering if anyone can clear something up for me regarding redundancy.

I have recently been told that my role is being made redundant, and have been offered an alternative role, which I most likely will not be taking.

Is this considered voluntary or involuntary redundancy?

    Thanks!

I was recently in this situation in the UK (so my facts may be wrong for over here) but I was considered to have taken Voluntary redundancy.

If there wasn't another position within the comapny which could be classed as "suitable" i.e same grade and standing within the company then it is considered involuntary.

Again this was my situation in the UK. I had been with the company for 10 years and I didn't feel that the position they were offering was right for me. So I took the package and came home and now I'm on the hunt for a new job :o

    Best of luck :)

can I ask why you wont take the role been offered?

Of course, to take it would mean moving to a department I have no interest in, and reduced hours and salary. I feel I've been there long enough, and don't want to take what I would consider is good few step backwards.

I've since been told by my HR that the redundancy, in my case, is considered involuntary.

    Thanks for the replies

Correct, its redundancy either way firstly becasue your role is now ceasing and their offer should be equal in wages, hours and responsiblity and its not then they are in effect making you redundant so your actions have no bearing on it.

If they did offer a role of similar nature to your currnet and you refused then it may not be considered redundancy in any form.

Also either redundancy has no bearing on your entitlement and future prospects.
