    Hi all,

Just thought I'd post this to see what sparring combos etc people like or get good results from in a competition environment? Would be good to get replies from all / any standup striking styles...

    Thanks!
    Simon

Not necessarily my favorite but the combo I get the most effect from is a nice simple hook, cross, kick.

So from outside striking range, left hook (lots of hip into it), straight right cross, left kick (full shin across floating ribs with again lots of hip)

coming off a right cross would the momentum and body position led to a more effective right kick to floating ribs?

No, momentum goes left right left
Hook to pull you into striking range. Strong right cross. Then a very small step forward(maybe very slightly to the right) with the right foot to have your left hip back.
Then big left roundhouse putting all the hip into it driving the shin into ribs.

Im making it sound more complicated than it is :)

I see a couple of variables here and all really depend on what openings there are and I’m assuming orthodox stance

For a semi contact point fighting situation your technique might make sense as power is not an issue and finishing with a lead leg kick might make sense as it has the shorter distance to cover and with the right shuffle should be quicker that coming off the back leg. But a lead left hook to start with would not be a wise move in semi-contact.

    Light contact, maybe.

Full contact: personally would only finish with the lead leg on this combo if there was a massive opening and right foot was positioned well. Full contact proper right cross has you set up for the right leg round house.
    Just my two sense…..

Still think about my favourite combo …….

I don't think so....you've a big forward momentum after the right cross. A right step has you in position for the left kick. For the right kick you'd need to pull your right arm back to get yourself ready to throw the right kick.

That's not to say it wouldn't be a good combo (left hook, heavy right cross, heavy right kick), I just think the left kick to finish is more natural.

as khannie said above. Its the good fighters that can pull of the combo's that dont feel right.

For me I like left kick to inside thigh followed by a quick kick to ribs with my right.Just feels really natural and for some reason i can carry it off with reasonable speed+ force

Also teeps are nice when you get one off on an unsuspecting sparring partner

sure really its what ever works for ya and where the openings are.

These things are always better if you can visualise then and this is the only decent image I can find

In the pic the girl on right has just completed a right cross. Which leg is so best positioned to deliver the quickest, strongest kick to the ribs with the least body positioning adjustment?

Just interested as I’ve no MT experience just KB & boxing where the stances do vary.
