    Hi

I have a few running related injuries that keep reoccurring, I am running just over a year now, have been to physio loads, but I would rather understand the injuries myself and do something to prevent them, rather going to physio each time they reoccur.

A good sports injury book would be a start I think, so can anyone recommend one?

    Thanks
    CK

Depends on how much detail you want in it. I've dozens if them at home from pretty basic to really detailed, high level ones. Will have a look later and list them out for you.

Thanks I'd say the more detailed the better!

Anatomy of Sports Injuries by Brad Walker is quite good. It's easy to understand for someone who only has basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology. It has a chapter on sports injury prevention, one on treatment and rehabilitation and one on sports med terms. It's really written in an easy to understand fashion. All the lotus publishing books are great and this one is definitely not a let down. For each injury it'll give a brief outline, cause of the injury, signs and symptoms, how to treat it yourself, rehab and prevention and a list of strengthening/rehab exercises. It also has lots of pretty pictures. :D

Clinical Sports Medicine - Brunker and Kahn This is pretty much THE sports medicine bible. Very detailed, lots of medical terms though. It has everything though. Covers pretty much every injury there is, goes through assement and management of injuries, great images including x-rays and MRI's etc, popular injury management and prevention techniques.

Sports Injuries: Their Prevention and Treatment - Peterson and Renstrom I really love this one. Quite similar to the Clinical Sports Medicine book but not as widely used, I actually prefer this one. Again it's very detailed and you'd probably need to have good knowledge beforehand to understand it better but if you were interested you probably could use it as a diagnostic tool. I could write out the same stuff for this one as Clincal Sports Medicine. They're both very good but both fairly high level, they both have a really good section on rehab exercises too. The guys who wrote this are some of the top guys in the field.

Sports Injuries and Illnesses Basic, doesn't cover many injuries but written in a very easy to understand fashion. Not really one I'd highly recommend. Has a good chapter on environmental problems though.

Sports Injuries: A Self Help Guide - Vivian Grisogono again, fairy basic compared to books 2 and 3 above but it's easy to understand, good images, great information, and easy to understand. Can't get it new but it's got a good directory of stretches and rehab exercises.

I've a few more but they're more about the biomechanics of injury etc and aren't really relevant. :pac:

http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/ is a fantastic website as is http://www.physioroom.com/ they both have great info on injuries and Sports Injury Clinic has a 'virtual therapist'.

There's a virtual therapist on www.mybody.ie aswell, which is fairly decent.

Thanks a million for that RacoonQueen!

I ordered the Anatomy of Sports Injuries on Amazon, so I will start with that one and see how I get on.

Will check out those sites too.

    Thanks again for the info.

No probs. That's the one I'd have recommended you to get anyway, thats why I put it top of the list. :)

Sports injury clinic is a really good site too, they have some great vids too with rehab exercises and a cracking iphone app, which is free at the moment if you have an iphone.

That Sports injury clinic app seems to be gone, I couldn't find it in the app store anyways, I found a link to it, but it was dead, it must have been taken down for some reason, pity, it sounded like a great one.

Hello, I'm really glad that you liked the App - we had it on trail for a couple of days and now we are swapping the accounts. The app will be available again soon for just 1.79. Thank you again for your comments.

Instructions for Sports Medicine Patients by Marc Safran is anothger great book and covers just about every injury topic. http://www.sportsmd.com is another great website that has info on sports injuries and their articles are very "treatment" focused with many videos on recovery exercises.

Your not alone with having many injuries and they seem to just keep coming but being smart and educated will help in prevent and recover. Good luck!
