Reverse Pivot

Has anyone a good tip to stop the reverse pivot, it's been creeping into my game over the last while and I just can't seem to stop it. I try not to let my left side collapse on the backswing by keeping my left knee flexed but this seems to restrict my backswing, and I feel that my hips aren't turning at all, resulting in just an arm swing.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I think one drill at the range is to swing with a ball under your left heel. OK it doesn't let you have a very full weight transfer to the left side upon impact, but it will surely prevent you from starting the swing weighted to your left..

I also find that you should set up with your weight on the right side a little more (or in your case maybe exaggerate it a bit). With your initial weight on the right side at setup, it's very hard to move it back to the left at the start of the swing.

Turn your shoulders on the backswing so that they are set over (parallel to) the inside of your right foot. A reverse pivot usually means that you turned your shoulders but left them over the left foot (if you're right handed).

Keep your right knee flexed and turn your left foot towards the target.

a final gift...3/4 swings with your feet 6-10 inches apart.
Its impossible to sway or reverse pivot with this stance as you will fall over.

Continuing to what Greebo has said I've had a real problem with reverse pivot over the years. Spent a long time this winter learning drills and how to cure it.

    For the right handed player

Stand with both feet more or less together, swing club as usual including following through, in order for the ball to move your right hip has to turn. If done properly the ball will travel.

To further develop this. Again stand with feet together, take your back swing then on down swing take a step forward with your left foot, this gives you the feeling of transfer of weight and with practice will eliminate reverse pivot.

I have found both of the above drills superb as they give you a feel for what you are supposed to be doing.

    Hope they help
