Central heating : question

We have an oilfired central heating system.

This week we switched on the central heatings ystem for 30 mins and the radiators on the ground floor and upstairs heated up fine.

yesterday, we switched on the heating again but the downstairs radiators did not heat up.
Today, the same thing happened : the upstairs radiators heat up but the downstairs radiators remain cold.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? Any solutions?

Are there any electric valves on the system to zone it??

1 zone for upstairs, one for downstairs and another for hot water?

If there is, the valve may have failed closed and not opened the loop to let the heating through...

Other than that, it might be a stat or a pump.
if you have one area working it is not the boiler...

    Mike.

Just as a follow up to this thread.

    I got my system fixed.

It transpires that the boiler was working fine but that the electronic control to allow the valve open to allow the heating to come on downstairs failed.
(it's an electronic device that opens/closes a valve - and it, the electronic device, failed).

Got the electronic device changed - cost me €60.00.
