hi all, im in the process of getting a bigger car and i have whittled it down to 2.Ive checked them thru cartell and the 2 cars have not been taxed all the time.one of them has gone more than 3 months without it been taxed, this was during 2008. The dealers have told me than the cars were ex-rental cars from avis or something. everything else checks out ok im just wondering why would these cars not have been taxed for a period??could anyone shed some light on this as it is putting me off buying but I know its not a major thing. They havent been crashed or anything.

It may be that the cars were off the road for a period of time (perhaps they were sitting on a dealers forecourt?). Do the dates of sale support this? If you'd like to send me the registration numbers I'd be happy to take a look.

Quite possibly they had too many cars and they were off the road.

erm or just the previous owners are to cheap to tax the car?

fialry common nowadays, personally i wouldn't worry about the cars being taxed or not. My concern would be more around nct history, engine condition, cost and mileage

If you read the OP, its (apparently) an ex-hire car. Hire car firms don't run cars without tax...

The off the road due to oversupply suggestion is most likely.

If they are ex rental then they probably come off the road at the end of the month they were out of tax, and head to where they are sold off from.

Depending on how many are for sale, they could be sitting in a garage somewhere for quite a while. No point taxing cars that are sitting off the road, so they wouldn't be taxed for quite a while.

If it was 2008 it wouldn't surprise me at all. Pricing was all over the place and a lot of stuff was brought in from the UK, so Irish cars weren't selling and therfore there was a lot of stock sitting around in sales facilities.
