Hey all, Mods feel free to move if in incorrect forum

My grandmother is going in for a hip replacement before Christmas and is on the medical card. Just wondering if the respite after care is covered with the medical card? [In other words, is it free?]

I've tried googling it but nothing...

    Thanks in advance

I know someone who had a hip replaced during the summer and were ment to have free respite.

Make sure you fight her corner. In the end the person I knew didnt get the respite because she did what the nurses told her to do ie she tried to help herself and did whatever excerises.

I thought there was an entitlement to two weeks post operative convalescence after leaving hospital, or is that just for those with private health insurance?

Yeah you are 'entitled' to the respite care but that by no means means you will get it. You have to make a fuss and from what I've seen you need to not try and help yourself or you will be sent straight home.
