Any suggestions as to where to locate a Good Training plan for Iron Man UK - 31 July 2011. How many hours training per week is required? Just want to attempt and finish it, not going to try and break any world records. Any advice from a novice would be much appreciated.

You'll get a few differing opinions, but if you are looking to squeeze in an IM around the rest of your life, Don Fink is a reasonable starting point.

shotgunmcos kindly posted a version of Fink's competitive plan here - but you should get Fink's book to give it context.

Hey welcome to logs Wool. Best of luck with your Journey. I'm only starting the road to my first IM in 2 weeks also so probably not the best person to advise on plans as I have not seen one through yet!

Take your life into consideration first and think critically and realistically how many hours per week you could dedicate to training at peak?

Its not a case of putting in a 'requirement' of hours if you are to finish. You could average 10 hours per week and finish as long as it is structured and progressive.

How much cycling and running have you done the past year?

How is your swimming stroke and how would you rate your fitness in the water?

    Have you done many Tris?

    Hi Wool etc..

First off congratulations on embarking on the IM journey, its a tough but great experience

I did my first IM this year following the Don Fink plan as well (somewhere between the intermediate and competitive plan). I finished in 12:30 hrs and although I wish I had pushed harder on the bike I was still pleased with my overall time (hoping for 10:59:59 next time). Anyway i kept a blog of all my IM training over the year so it might be of interest to you (so long as your not aiming to break any records)

    Heres the link:

Hopefully there might be some useful info in there for you - enjoy & safe training!
