Do apple have plans for a bigger Ipad?

I know they are planning a smaller ipad but a bigger one would suit my needs better. If they released one which was about 15 inches this would mean I could get rid of the tv in my flat and also my laptop in one fell swoop.

Anyone know if there are any plans for this?

You'd probly still need your laptop or pc to load stuff on to the iPad though.

15" would push the boundaries of “portable” tablet definition. And anyone wanting 15” screen would mainly purchase laptop as its value for money is better and can do much more then Ipad. 15” i feel would be too big , too heavy for tablet and too small for TV

maybe initially, but for my needs I wouldn't need it after that, I'll mainly just be browsing the web and streaming tv and movies on it

The laptop will always be better value for money, but the Ipad is better in virtually every other aspect (for me anyway as I won't be using it for typing or working on it, it'll be for entertainment purposes only). The battery is probably the thing thats making the ipad relatively heavy so if the screen was bigger then it shouldn't add that much more weight to it, relatively speaking.

No-one knows but I think it's inevitable. One of its main features is as an e-reader, but in its current size/resolution, you can't read magazine/comic size pages without zooming.

I have one with Zinio (magazine subscription program), you can't read the page without zooming in and it sucks.

As an experiment, I opened a magazine pdf on my 15" Macbook and flipped it sideways, so it was in portrait format. It's a much better experience, can scan the page and read without having to zoom. Of course holding a laptop like this isn't that comfortable.

It's going to happen, people always want bigger screens.

Dont know about a larger one, but i can imagine a wicked docking station being made by some company. Use ipad on couch, bed whatever, but when you need to do some "work" pop over to your desk, and slide it into dock which would charge it, provide keyboard/mouse as needed as well as various expansion ports. Except for the charging option, it wouldnt even need to be a physical connection (isnt there a charging mat for iphones? something similar for ipad tied in with dock would finish it off!).

bigger screen needs more juice, so the battery would need to increase or else suffer a time betwee ncharges

Keyboard, mouse, expansion, in fact everything you mentioned needs a physical connection.

And the power mats need a special case, they are as good as they appear, not worth it for ipad

The "I want small but big at the same time" dilemma will surely be only addressed with new screen technologies allowing them to be unfolded or unrolled, as well as being ultra thin. Youtube samsung's OLED foldable screen from 2009. Fairly impressive and one can only imagine what will be possible in this regard within the next few years. I reckon we'll be able to put 4mm thick 20inch 3D/HD screens in our shirt pocket within the next 5-10 years.

So bluetooth keyboards and mouse do not exist for ipad then?
Expansion i believe is the only one not there at the moment.
And while the current power mats arent that good, I would imagine they would get better.

This is all gone into "what if - maybe" territory. I would think Apple doesn’t have any plan for it now. What happens in 2 – 3 -5 years in irrelevant to OP

Bluetooth keyboards already work fine with the iPad. There is no point connecting a mouse though since iOS doesn't have a pointer on screen anyway but if there was a need/software support, a bluetooth mouse would work just fine too so no physical connections needed for those at least.

Down the line it might also be possible to do full video out using some hack of AirPlay so that would give a video output too without a physical connection, leaving the power connection as the only thing left.

Look at the Palm Pre, physical connection is unnecessary for charging. It is totally possible to have a wirefree iPad. Bluetooth keyboard, fancy Palm charging thing, wireless syncing, all easily done with tech that's almost as older than the iPad.

Steve Jobs: There will never be a 7-inch iPad

I never said bluetooth doesn't exist. I said it would need a wired connection, as the consumption from using a bluetoth all the time would be quite big.

and yes powermats will get better, but the simple fact is ipad/iphone doesn't have an induction device fitted so current models will always need some sort of case fitted.
And before you say it may be in the future, yes it most definitely will, but now we talking about an ipad and a docking station, both of which don't exist. The point?

Keyboards do, I'm using one now!

I think they've got it right with the 10 inch screen size. You get a full browsing experience without having to zoom and the keyboard is very usable. A 7 inch screen would have many of the compromises that you have to accept with your phone but wouldn't fit in your pocket.

    Posted from my iPad.

I have no idea what you mean by this.

you refered to them in a sarcastic fashion, I pointed out that I never said they didn't exist.
    No you didn't
All i said was it would need a wired conection.
In the next post I clarify why. I stand by this.

Of course its possible to do it otherwise, but until induction is improved, anybody, who bought a dock and ipad and used it like that, as a workstation, is a moron.
Then again, I suppose that's who these things are aimed at really.
