Recent increase in Gardai on M50?

I drive the M50 everyday and over the last few years it is rare enough to see a Garda car, undercover or otherwise.

But in the last 2 weeks I have seen vehicles pulled in by a garda car literally every day sitting in the hard-shoulder. Last night they were even sitting on the bend Northbound just before Blanch, no camera, just seemed to be for appearance. There was also someone being booked just past the Redcow.

    Why the sudden change?

Is there any chance they're making an effort to reduce the overall speed of everyone before static camera's go live and private company comes in?

Same here, I only travel the M50 on Friday evenings and Sunday nights but over the last 3 weeks I've seen someone pulled in by the Gardai on every occasion.

i'm on the M50 pretty frequently too, mostly i've seen them just before the toll so i assumed it had something to do with the increase in people tailgating...

My friend got done yesterday on the M50, was only doing 4km over the limit. Guard must be very hard up for a few tickets.

There was a Nordy registered car acting the b0llox a couple of weeks ago, in the morning. Speeding, undertaking, dangerous overtaking etc - generally being a tool, with 4 lads in the car.

Not far past the Ballymun junction northbound, I thought I saw a flashing light up ahead in the outside lane, but wasn't sure. Then I definately saw a flashing light from a Red Mondeo as it followed the knob in to the hard shoulder.

Another unmarked Mondeo shot up the auxillary lane inside me, before pulling in front of the other one. He looked over at me as I was in a base model Focus, laughing my head off.

During that journey I got passed by at least 7 undercover cars, so there must have been something going on. Just glad they were in the right place at the right time to catch someone acting the fool.

Sounds like a high speed chase/bank robbery/IRA stash move etc..
Or just a dangerous fecker being pulled.

I presume you mean 4km/h? Are you sure that's all your friend did wrong?

Saw a silver 01 -D Camry too weaving through the girdlock with lights on

Makes sense, never made the connection to tailgating and the toll at the time, must have been the shock of actually seeing them for once monitoring traffic.

Saw another vehicle being booked last night just before Ballymount turn-off.

Not getting OT has nothing to do with issuing tickets
Its not like the traffic lads get a bonus for every ticket issued
If there is an increased presence on the M50 its cos an inspector or super in the Traffic Corps HQ has decided that they need to increase their presence in the area and judging from some of the posts I've read on here about M50 driving maybe its about time :D

there was article in the times saying the gards are making there presence felt on the main gateways in and out of the capital due to so many road traffic accidents and also to disrupt the transportation of drug as its well known that the m50 is always used for that.
I think the gards are calling it "operation anvile" thats why there all over the place because it involves the DDU ERU traffic corps and RSU and so on.
