Mondeo or another car?

I'm contemplating a change of car, and would love your opinions.

My current car is an 01 diesel Mondeo with 140,000 on the clock, in great mechanical order, everything done over the past few years, fuel pump, clutch, all the big jobs, just a bit smoky and due a service. The downside for me is that it is an ex-taxi, but none the worse for that, and the tax is a bit steep.

My question is this, do I consider the car worthless and unsaleable, and keep it in as best repair I can, and struggle on with the high tax bill, or do I try to sell it and hope to buy something much cheaper for under €1,000 with cheap tax? All opinions welcome...

You'll probably get a grand for your yoke anyways - cheap mk3 mondeo diesels sell fast.
Then, with your 1k, you could look at other options but in a diesel, many are 1.9 or 2.0 anyways.

If the car is trouble free then I would keep it, any savings in tax by buying another car could be whiped out by any unexpected repairs.

+1 If the car is giving no trouble I'd hold on to it. Its not worth much and as poster above mentions you could be unlucky with the next purchase and end up with a few nasty repair jobs.

Get the service done and good clean on the outside and do a mini valet on it yourself on the inside with a few cleaning products from Halfords or wherever and a good hoover. You'd be surprised when your done you might fall in love with it all over again.
