I drive a '05 Corolla and have this light on my dashboard:

The engine is kind of chugging going uphill and the light flashes when I start the car in the morning. Thanks for any replies.

JUMP OUT OF THE CAR QUICK - ITS ABOUT TO EXPLODE!!

    J/k

Its a fault code that needs to be investigated. Buy a cheap-n-cheerful OBD2 reader to see what the code is, or bring it to a garage

I hadn't a choice but to drive it up to today as I have only started a new job and it is my only means of transport. I am going to get it looked at at lunchtime today (hopefully). Just hope I haven't done any damage.
I think I saw that light before in another car I had and it was something to do with the catalytic converter.

I don't think driving on that light will do any major harm. Its usually to do with a sensor packing up. I know my sister still drives her car with the light on hers over a year after it first came on!

I got that light on mine and it was a lambda sensor that was gone. If you drive too long on it you risk damage to your cat. Simple enough job to do yourself as most just screw/clip out.

ditto, mine came on in june 2007 and i sold it in february with the light still on! Sensor gone, no biggy, however get it checked out first so you know!!

One of the sensors in the engine management has picked up a fault, you'll need a diagnositc check to determine what exactly is wrong. Best get it checked.

I've seen the same light come on when I ran out of petrol so it may not be a huge issue.

Had it looked at just there. He said it's a coil or something, I haven't done any damage driving it with it like that which is a relief.

Correction;Christ I am absolutely screwed. Could be looking at a new engine. The water had run out, the temperature gauge was up really high and I didn't notice.
I dunno how much it will cost yet but if it's a new engine it's going to be a lot.
Totally gutted but it's my own fault.:o
