    Hi there,

Our Venture group is going to Aroura hostel in Glencree this weekend, our rules state that any overnight trip we go on there must be a female leader present, we cant go without one:-(

We plan to have campfire Friday, go on a hike on Saturday, campfire, games, backwoods cooking, havin the craic etc... Sunday we'll do some bivi building and prob leave around lunchtime... We'll also be doing some Nav training with the ventures if you care to brush up on your skills/pass them on!

Guaranteed to be a fun action-packed weekend and of course food, accommodation, petrol etc will be paid for! And no scouting experience is required!

Please call/text me on 085 132 4452, I'm in lectures until 4 but should be able to take any calls after then!

Had a read through the charter, think this is allowed!

    Cheers,
    Liam.

    Hey Liam
Have you tried posting in the Scouting thread I'd say you'll get better results. Hope you get sorted it'd be a shame if it can't go ahead.

Of course you can go without one. I hate all that BS

In the 5 years I was in ventures we never had a female leader despite 60% female ventures.

unless you've got a really "stuck up for the rules" group leader there is no issue with it.

I agree that many of the rules brought in as part of child protection are excessive and in many cases using your own cop on is the sensible approach.

That said I don't think this one is and wouldn't travel with kids without at least one male and one female leader present - obviously there's a certain amount of arse-covering there to protect yourself should the worst happen but there's a practical side too.

For example one of the girls might have an issue that she wouldn't feel comfortable discussing with a male (and vice versa with one of the boys). Same applies if there's an injury that might involve administering first aid on the scene.

It's a kinda damned if you do, damned if you don't scenerio; chances are you'd be fine but if something did happen they you could be slated.

Thinking about it though I was in two different venture groups both were mixed but only had male leaders.

I think going on a public internet forum and looking for a total stranger flies a little bit in the face of the whole point of child protection... don't leaders need to be Garda vetted anyway?

That's a very good point, I'm going to lock this.
