    Sounds odd.

Is it the backlight that is going off, try shining a light on it to see if you can see a feint picture on it.

Could be just a power saving mode setting.

If the computer is powered up while plugged in does the screen display bios etc. if so at what point does it go blank.

What OS do you have, and what make / model number

The bios screen is the first one you see when you boot up.

Turn off the laptop, plug it in and start up you should see toshiba info before any windows logo.

Is it bright at this stage or is it dim from the start.

Look for the blue icons indicating brightness, hold Fn (usually bottom left of the keyboard) and try to increase the brightness.

hiya thanks for that i have my screen as bright as possible

a black screen with toshiba comes up first on the bios flickers for 2 secs and then black

It sounds like they sent you the wrong power cable. Check the voltage on he sticker on both the old one and the one they sent you to see if they are the same...

Also it might be worth taking the battery out completely and trying it on the new charger without the battery - this worked for me before...

    Best of luck

Doubt this is the reason, but check your Power Profiles, the screen may be set to be on lowest brightness when you laptop is plugged in.

Post the full part number or model number.

Do you have access to another power supply to test it (A Universal Charger for example).

Although the power ratings match with the 2 adapters you have the actual output may be different.

    Where are you based.

The Satellite Pro isn't enough info on the model number to help.
Look at the labels underneath for a part number.
It could be a known issue with the machines.
