Ubuntu Light Broadcom Wireless Problem

I'm nearly sorry I installed this now as I'm pulling out my hair all evening.

Installed the new ubuntu light 10.10 on a HP network mini 10 long side win7. Now I can't get the wireless working on either OS. In win7 I've reinstalled the broadcom driver. It tells me the adapter is on but it's not picking up any networks.

On ubuntu I've reinstalled the drivers using Synaptic Package Manager and I've used the terminal to type
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get --reinstall install bcmwl-kernel-source

It now tells me the driver is activated and in use below:

but the wireless is still not enabled on the top taskbar

Any suggestions appreciated. I've read before that wireless can be an issue in ubuntu but I didn't think it was this bad. Thanks

Sorry I should have posted here.
    Anyway try this:

Broadcom drivers and Linux don't play well together. I found ndiswrapper to work well.
This lets you use the windows driver in Linux rather than the re-engineered one.

Ok I will post in here because I'm hijacking the other thread. I finally got the card working with a hard reboot (plugging out battery aswell as ac) and finally the card came to life. :)

Not sure will I bother messing around with the ubuntu again :o
