    Hi folks,

I am taking advice given by your good selves to a naive me a while back and I'm just going to offer my services to secondary schools for last minute/short notice substitute roles and an hour here and there when they might need me.

My dad who taught his entire life advised me to apply to the bigger schools in Dublin and maybe even the inner city schools.

I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what schools would be the biggest in the inner city area as I'm not familiar with the area.

Thanks a mil for any help.

Larkin College, Dublin 1, though we have a group of on-call subs.

Call in and talk to someone and the DP might add you to the list.

    What are your subjects?

Hi Spurious. I'm doing H.dip next year and so looking for experience. I started another thread a while back and naively thought that I could get a full-time long-term substitute role and as I have part-time work already at the moment I've had time to reflect since and I realise now that you and others were right. I can only expect a few hours here and there, but it'll all be experience.

Irish is my passion and I have a great command and love for the language. I know the curriculum very well as I'm going to be giving grinds as well and I'm really committed to this thing.

The downside- my degree and postgrad are in different subjects, and not Irish. Would this be acceptable in your school? I know some principals are more firm on this than others. It is only the few hours at short notice I'll be doing and I'm not wishing to do qualified teachers out of a job.

@pog it - we've a pretty strong Irish department, who tend not to be sick that much, but it's no harm get your face known in as many schools as possible and your number taken.
We have hour long classes, which freaks some people out.

I can't comment on the qualifications thing. I have no idea what qualifications our current 'subbers' have.

as far as my experience goes, schools aren't too fussy with short term substitution.. where your problem will lie will be with the teaching council when you do your HDip. You can only become registered as qualified to teach a subject if you have studied it in your primary degree. Postgrads don't count.
