    Hey Everyone,

Please can someone help me, i bought a seat ibiza costa brand new in 2007, a year later i had a problem with the brakes, when i'd brake it would cause a honking sound, when i was getting it serviced i asked them to look at it, they said it was dust on the brakepads, and fixed it, then last year the engine light came on, i got a mechanic to come to my place of work and he said it was an igninition coil that need replacing, now, at the time, i didn't get these things sorted out under warranty, i thought at the time, ah , its only a 100 euro, now, the engine light is back on and i took it for a service, and was told that when they did the compression test, they found that one of the cylinders had a 10 bar, when it should have been 14 bar, he said its going to cost nearly 1,000 for parts, the car has only got 23,000km on the clock, and is only 3 years old, surely this shouldn't happen to a car with such a low mileage, i can't even sell it, coz no garage is going to take it off me, and if i try to pull a fast one and say nothing, then when they do find out they will demand a refund! but i'm trying to get through to seat ibiza ireland customer care but keep going through to voicemail, my questions are, 1. would it cost that much for parts, and 2. do you think out of good will seat will help me out, as the warranty was only for 2 years and was up last year, and the garage i bought it from don't want to know as they don't do seat anymore, surprise , surprise,! please help!

You are totally and utterly screwed. IMO any goodwill from Seat will have gone out the windows since:

    1. You've never made them aware of any issue until now
    2. You involved some random mechanic in a repair.

Did you have the coil problem attended to as soon as the light came on? Does the car have a full main dealer service history?

My air con compressor went 3 weeks out of warranty. Seat refused to even entertain a goodwill gesture on at the time a low mileage car with full service history.

To be in with a chance you need to have had the car serviced by the book. As your car is now 3 years old there should be a record of 3 services and by a main dealer too. Why you got another mechanic involved for a warranty job is beyond me but really wont help your case at all.

ok, what happened was, on my first service i rang the garage i bought the car from and was told that they don't do seat anymore, so i went to another seat dealer and was charged nearly 300 euro for a service, then in 2009 on a 2 year old car with less than 20,000 km, the engine light came on, i rang the place i bought it from and was more or less told, we don't do seat, thanks , goodbye, i know nothing about cars or warrantys and thought , thats it, my warranty is worthless now that they don't do seat, i never even gave it a thought that Seat Ireland could help me, so after losing my job last year and spending my redundancy money on paying off the car, i hadn't got 300 euro to go to a seat dealer, and worried about the enigne light i called this mobile service and he came and checked out the car and said it was the ignition coil, now, this year, i am still out of work, and went to a registered well known garage and he tells me about the cylinder problem, after been advised to contact seat, seat called me back and said they are prepared to help me out once i go to a seat dealer, so that would be 2 times out of the 3 years i got the car that i would be have used a seat dealer, but beside all this, my frustration lies at the point that the car is only 3 years old and 23,000km and i paid 16000 euro and now its a worthless piece of **** i can't even sell it for scrap coz apparently it needs to be 10 years old, i feel like leaving it in the middle of jobstown and letting some scum bag put a banger in it and blow it up thats how i feel about the whole thing, its a new car that shouldn't happen, i had a fiat panda for 4 years and the most that ever happened to it was a flat tyre, and 5 years warranty, and theres good oul seat with their 2 years warranty, playing it safe, everyone knows a main dealer rips you off, and thats one of the reasons why i didnt go to them, the light came on twice and i got it checked out asap each time

If they said they'd help out then take it to the dealer. You've had a problem, these things happen and you just need to bite the bullet. You're doing very well if they are offering to help out so go with it and then price the work elsewhere as a comparison.

In all fairness it's hardly worthless, chill out and see how much money they want off you to get it sorted, they are offering good will so see how much ;)

Thanks for your messages, i'm just worried sick about it, and it caused so many rows in the house over money issues and the fact that i should have getting rid of it when i lost my job, but instead i spent my redundancy money paying it off and now this happens!

This seems to have been a little more than a random event...I've come across several polo's same era with same engine problem..... best of luck with SEAT's goodwill ! Its amazing, people will laugh at others that buy Renault, and yet I've seen Renault pay 70% contribution towards a new Turbo for a 5 year old Espace with 120,ooo miles on the clock. Take a leaf SEAT !!!

Any news on what SEAT are prepared to cover?

Right, this is the story so far, if i had a gun i'd blow my own head of i'm so stupid!, I took the car to a SEAT dealer this morning, told him the whole story behind it, told him yer man in the place where i got it serviced on monday said that the parts will cost anything from 700 - 1000 euro, well , what a liar, yer man in SEAT said they only cost 350, and the total amount after labour would be 650, thats still to much for me to pay, so he said, that when a car comes back into them with an expensive job to be done, and if its out of warranty, the norm with them is to send in a Good Will gester claim to SEAT Ireland, and they normally help out somehow, i'm such a dope, like, why didn't i just bring it to a SEAT dealer last year and this year, and i wouldn't have had to ring SEAT and shoot my big mouth off, now they prob won't help me after all that, but he took the car and said he sent off the claim, and is waiting for SEAT to contact him then he will ring me and let me know what the story is, so figures crossed, the moral of my story is.......Always bring your SEAT back to a dealer to get serviced, i think someone already said that here! I will keep you all informed, thanks for your interest, it has helped me over the last few days when i was in a panic over it,

WELL!!!! SEAT rang me back today, their going to pay half of the cost which is 300 euro off 650euro, now, thats not bad is it?

And that cowboy in Cardock in Lombard street, saying the parts will cost up to 1,000 euro, the cheek, i've learned my lesson well, i 'm going to use the seat dealers from now on, thanks again for your comments everyone and thanks Roverjames, for your comment it made me smile, and "Chill" out heehee;):p

You're doing very well with that. Generally when it's under warranty it's best to bring it to a dealer. You don't have to but if you get into a situation like yours a dealer history always helps. Now that yours is out of warranty all you need is a decent independent mechanic that's not going to rip you off

Sounds like the "Cowboy" in Cardock did you a favour sending you to main dealer did he not get you half of your repair work for free..... Think you are being very unfair to them .
Iv had my car serviced with them over the last 2 years and i have saved a small fortune compared to main dealer prices.!!!!!

    WELL! PAUL bhoy,
First, no he didn't get the job done at half price, i rang seat and told them the car is just 3 years old and is as low as 24KM and this shouldn't happen, so they paid for half on one condition, that i'd take it to a seat dealer.

Second, when i was at cardock I asked for my rear window washer to be fixed as it wasn't pumping out any water, this wasn't done, and THIRD he never reset the service indicator because it comes back on each time i turn on the engine telling me i need a service, so he may have had a bad hangover that day and was a bit disorientated
, or as i said their cowboys, so i'm sure there are lots of places out there that are a whole lot cheaper than the main dealer but i don't know of any so for that reason from now on i'm sticking with the main dealer on the grounds of i'd rather pay the 50 quid extra to get the job done right!
