Golf in Scotland

Want to organize a golf holiday in scotland. I want to base myself in a few different areas in different parts of the country (Edinburgh, East Lothian, Highlands, West coast) and play as many courses as I can in that area. Problem is there are so many courses and so little time. Does anyone have experience of playing over there. Would they recommend courses or areas? St Andrews is a must play for me but beyond that open to all suggestions.

Have a look at this thread.

Four of us went over last year for the Open and played 3 rounds Monday - Wednesday in Prestwick, Western Gailes - an absolute gem near Turnberry it's regularly used for the Open Qualifying and another called the Darley Course on Troon Municipal.

We got the boat over hired a house for the week for the golf, boat and the house it worked out at just over €400

My advice would be to base yourself in two areas only and soak in the atmosphere...

Those areas should be St.Andrews (Old, New, Eden, Kingsbarns, Castle, Crail, Elie, Dukes, Lundin, Leven, Carnoustie)...

...and North Berwick (North Berwick, Muirfield, Gullane 1,2 & 3, Renaissance, Luffness)

Both lovely old towns that scream golf...
