Anyone know what the building under construction in front of Corrib Village (at the Newcastle Road entrance) is going to be used for? I saw it when I was passing by the other day.
I had a look at NUIG's 'Campus of the Future' brochure but it doesn't mention anything about a building at corrib village. It's not like the current student houses at Corrib Village so I presume it's not new accommodation.

I suppose its really the only active building site in galway apart from the one at the arts millenium building

And the new Bialann, and the new engineering building, and that shop on the corner by the Uni chemist, and the Bishop O'Donnell road...

Don't understand why we have all this money coming in to build all this and yet our registration is going to double/grants cut, the staff inc postgrads have got salary/wages cut and further cuts to be made. Wreckless spending if you ask me.

More buildings -> more students -> more money.

No, students don't come because of nice buildings and they'll have a harder time coming here when they can't afford.

I think he means more buildings allow for more places on courses.

They really need to take a look at the whole CAO application thing though, it's bollocks how course entry is decided on the number of places and not difficulty of the course. Like won't the points for Engineering drop loads now that they can presumably fit a load more on the course what with the huge new building for em?

It shouldn't unless supply already outstrips demand which it doesn't.

There wont necessarily be a large increase in engineering students when the new building opens as all the engineering departments will be moving to it from their current locations, while their old buildings will probably be used by other departments and faculties. For instance geology will be moving into the civil engineering building on the main campus.
