County Tops Challenge

    Hi all,

Was just reading about an attempt to scale the highest point in each of the 32 counties of ireland in 100 hours or less which happened a few years back (http://www.dtl.ie/UserFiles/File/1.pdf). I also read somewhere that the record for this feat was 98 hours - just to know if anyone on here knows anything about this?

The idea of doing the county tops for charity was something I thought about before. I've done quite a few of the tops already but it would be nice to combine them all over the space of a week..

If you do know of anyone who took part in this, would love to get some feedback re. routes etc.

    Paul

Edit: A bit more searching revealed that a guy called Ian McKeever set the record.. Can't find any account of it thought.

That sounds familiar.. it might have been featured on the radio at the time. Slightly off topic and may or may not be a record but if you are looking to read about an interesting challenge, this one is a good one. 282 mountain tops in Ireland in the one year. here

Was reading about the 282 tops previously - a huge undertaken and definitely not something I'd have the time for (have a young family so walking time is quite restricted). I've set myself a long term challenge to climb all 212 mountains featured in Paddy Dillon's Mountains of Ireland book - ony have 43 done so far and it's taken the guts of two years to do that many!

Excellent. Would really appreciate that. An amazing achievement in such a short timespan - can only imagine the amount of advance preparation that went into it..

Are you who I think you might be? Were you in the lead van?
It was a great few days and that's when I got my woundedknee.

No problem Paul and I'll also fill you in on where the time was lost during the challenge. I didn't have any involvement in the planning but yes it did require a lot of advance work. Will that that info for you early next week.

Ya, that's me. I did wonder if that was where the name came from. Good to see that it hasn't held you back since then!! It was good craic with an interesting bunch of individuals.

Paulocon: Probably more interesting than the physical side or logistics was the fact that 10 of us managed it as a group. Undoubtedly it can be done faster but I can't see it being done faster by a group of 10. If you need more info than WoundedKnee sends on let me know and I should be able to dig something out.
